RP: Remus & Lilu
Who: Lilu & Remus
When: 28th April, mid-morning
Where: Remus' office
What: Job talk

Lilu had spent the past few days psyching herself up for the conversation with Remus. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, to have to come up with a job. Helping build relationships with other magical races was exciting and she knew she'd be good at it. Hopefully Remus would agree. She'd made sure to smooth her hair back in a bun that looked almost professional for once, though a few tendrils were threatening to escape. She'd inherited her father's hair in spirit if not in color.

She waited until after she was sure the morning meeting was finished, then took herself up to Remus' office. She knocked and waited to be let in.

"Hello! Is now a good time?" She aimed for bright but not too bouncy, because even though the full moon had been a couple of days ago, she didn't want to overwhelm Remus with her natural exuberance. "To chat about what I might be able to do for you?"

Remus hated having to miss a day of work. He knew it was his own conditioning because of his experiences. No one else seemed to expect him to work the day after the full moon. Harry had been surprised he was even able to walk after the first. Apparently his older self had not been as capable of forcing himself to get up as Remus had trained himself to be now. It made sense, he supposed. Another ten years of transformations, loneliness, poverty...it would have taken it's toll.

He still didn't like missing work, though, not after the number of times that had been the cause of losing work. But, Regulus turned out to not be as easy to get around as James had been the previous month. Not only had Regulus surprised him by staying in himself and working from his rooms, but he had been very unimpressed with Remus' attempts to get up and go to his own office when he awoke sometime in the middle of the afternoon.

So, after the meeting of the department heads, Remus had taken himself up to his office to work some more on his proposals for completely upending the way wizards dealt with non-human magical beings historically. He'd nearly forgotten Harry's daughter was going to come by to speak about a job until said young woman knocked on the open door. "Yes, now is perfect," he said, getting up to greet her and usher her toward a seat. "I admit, I'm a bit surprised you'd be interested in working in this department. From your eldest brother's description, I half-expected you would want to join him working in communication."

She took a moment to study him, thinking that while he looked tired, he was alert and didn't seem to be in any obvious pain. The wolfsbane potion really was a miracle, and she was so glad the two werewolves here were able to access it. She allowed herself to be ushered into a seat, though she perched on the edge as was her custom. She'd never been all that good at sitting still, even in interviews.

"Oh, well, I thought about that but what you need is also along the lines of communication isn't it? Making connections within other magical communities of non-humans? I can help with that." She paused, then decided for complete honestly. "Besides, my blog wasn't really professional and I don't want to make it professional if that makes sense? And I like magizoology and learning about other cultures I know a smattering of Goobledegook and Mermish, so there's that for what it's worth."

She paused a moment to let that settle. "So, what else would you like to know? I'm an open book."

After years spent trying to learn what his senses were telling him, Remus had become fairly adept at reading the way people stood, sat, looked around, just by combining his observation skills with the enhanced senses of smell, hearing, and motion-attuned vision. Seeing the way she sat perched on the edge of her seat, he smiled. "If you'd rather stand, sprawl, or pace, you can," he said kindly, though not without a tinge of amusement. "I'm not one to stand on formality and I got used to your grandfather and Sirius never being able to stay still for most of our school years." He was seated and still himself, of course. But, that was more his nature and the nature of the predator he'd become.

"Communications is a part of it," he agreed, nodding thoughtfully as she went on. There was a very fine balance in what he wanted to make this work into and he was going to be careful about those he brought into it. "And, that does make sense. Just because you enjoy doing something for yourself, doesn't mean you'd still enjoy it once the pressure and expectations of a career are layered on top of it. A smattering of both those languages is more than I have and would be beneficial, particularly in the moment with the Goblins being the focus of our outreach efforts currently. Have you much training in magizoology? Or is it mostly a private pursuit?"

"That obvious am I?" she asked, amused more than anything. "Maybe it's hereditary through the Potter and Black lines then. We Weasleys have a lot of Black blood for all people like to forget that." She decided to sit criss-cross in the chair. It wasn't professional, but since Remus didn't seem to care about that neither would she, and it would keep her found bouncing her leg around too much. "History of Magic was always the worst for me."

She grinned at his assessment. "That's exactly it." She was pleased that he understood, though technically the blog had been a career as well as a personal passion, she needed to do something different for the time being until she better understood her place here. "I have some. A NEWT in care of magical creatures, and then the past few months working with two of the biggest experts in the field on conservationist efforts, most recently in Cambodia." She paused for a moment. "I guess that's not so recent, but there's been some formal training along with the personal pursuit."

"Only to someone like me who's known James and Sirius half our lives." Remus laughed softly. "I would believe that Potter line, but there's an equal amount of evidence to the contrary about the Black line," he pointed out, smiling as she made herself truly comfortable. "You weren't actually trying to pay attention to Binns, were you? History of Magic was always best for planning pranks and catching up on other homework." That had been one subject where Remus definitely learned more from doing the reading than falling sleep in the lectures.

"Recent is relative. It's recent for you." After all, it wasn't as if she'd lived the ten intervening years to be able to have more distance between the experience and now. "But, that should do fine. The key to this department, really, is remembering that it's not just magical animals we're dealing with, but also beings who are every bit as intelligent and capable as we are. It the biggest dilemma, to be honest. I'm still reworking...well, everything. Designations, terminology, protocols. The previous ministries were lax at best in how they dealt with non-humans, downright cruel in other ways. Not a lot of field work at the moment, but plenty of book work and paperwork sorting out how we intend to proceed. And, a lot of where we will finally settle will require negotiation with the other races." Something that was difficult to do when they couldn't leave the castle and weren't even allowed in the Forest.

"One particular Black line. My great-uncles were half Black, and by all accounts they also possessed endless energy, as did Tonks who was from another line. So, equal parts Black and Potter energy to my way of thinking, and we haven't even accounted for Weasley energy. I was doomed from the start," she said, with another grin. "I learned very quickly not to pay attention to him. I think it's almost expected to use that class for anything except learning history."

A piece of hair had fallen out of the bun, and she tucked it behind her ear. "Very recent," she agreed, then nodded in vigorous agreement. "Oh, I absolutely agree. Governments around the world have overlooked intelligent, powerful beings for as long as we can trace back history. It's long past time we do serious reform." She bounced a little, growing a little bit excited about this possible job opportunity.

"So, I think I can help, even if ti means book and paper work."

"Ah," Remus 'corrected' with a grin. "But they were still only half-Black, as was Tonks. You can't definitively say it is the Black blood, as by the same argument you create more evidence to the contrary in Draco Malfoy, whose mother was Tonks' mother's sister. I'm afraid my hypothesis that Sirius is in a class by himself still holds merit, here," he added with a shrug and one of his pseudo-smirks. "Binns' class, however, is another matter entirely and one in which we are in complete agreement."

He couldn't help blinking a little at how casually she gave her blithe agreement on reforms and then had to remind himself that it was apparently an idea with which she grew up, not the foreign concept it seemed to be in his time. "Well, I can certainly use the help with getting things organized, as well as communicating with the other races. We've reached out the goblins. But, the merpeople and centaurs are right here as our nearest neighbours and we can't ignore them forever." He laughed softly. "So, yes, I think you can help. And, yes, book and paper work, but only for now."

Lilu slumped back with a mock pout on her face. "Okay, point conceded. Debate win goes to Mister Remus J Lupin," she said, then broke into a grin. "Sirius is definitely in a class by himself, I will give you that." That reminded her that she needed to check in with him without looking like she was checking in with him. Quidditch was in their future. "Is he around, by the way? I feel like I should go check his old classroom just to see if he's still teaching even though there aren't any students." That was actually really sad to think about, even if it was Binns.

"I volunteer to make a trip into the forest, or at least to the lake, to see if someone will talk to me. I've been to the lake a few times, made friends again with the giant squid, but I haven't seen any mermaids. Sometimes they'd come to the surface, but not now." She supposed they'd gone about their lives, free from annoying humans. "Brilliant. I've got a job then." It wasn't a question, so much as a statement. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any paperwork to sign.
