Explanations (tag: Loki)
Note: after this and this
Sigyn hadn't slept. She should have, and truthfully, she was utterly exhausted, but still, closing her eyes wouldn't bring slumber. She'd tried that. Every time she attempted it, all that ran through her head was the thought that Loki would think she was breaking her promise. It ate at her. The idea that he'd believe that of her, that she'd hurt him because he'd believe that of her, it tore her apart.
She hadn't broken her promise. And she'd sent Thor to explain it to him, but Sigyn feared that the big man might not have gotten everything across to Loki. For one thing, she'd been crying and possibly slightly hysterical by the time she'd shown up on Thor's doorstep. She honestly couldn't remember everything she'd told him, other than extracting his word that he'd explain to Loki. But had he? Had he really? Did Loki understand? Or had sending Thor only made it worse?
It was what had kept her awake all day. It was what had her pacing through the early evening hours. It was what sent her, through the secret paths and hidden trails, to Loki's home that night. And though she was always careful when going to visit him, Sigyn's level of paranoia made the trip take three times as long as she stopped frequently to gauge whether she was being followed or had been discovered. And she waited outside his home, to make certain he was alone, for nearly half an hour before making her way to the door. She couldn't take any chances any longer.
But she also couldn't leave him thinking she'd given up on him. She just couldn't. So Sigyn pulled up the latch on the door and let herself in. Then, softly, she spoke his name, unaware of how much longing there was in her tone. Taking several steps down the hall, she repeated it. “Loki? Please I need to talk to you.”
