"Yes. Oldest story, isn't it? The ruler will die, most of the rest of the male members of the pantheon will die." Hel took the offered bread and took a small bite, chewing thoughtfully for a moment. "Really stupid, if they would stop and think about it. The harder they try to stop it, to stop us, the more they fuel our resolve."
Hel and her siblings may or may not have been the prophecied monster children. By binding the boys, and casting her out, they assured when the time came for her father to take up arms, they would join him. Nothing would stay her hand at that point, and she doubter her brothers felt any less hostile.
"I wouldn't know. He's tied to a rock in a cave somewhere. But he never told me so. It's unlikely. He loves me, I know that, but he prefers to keep me hidden from others, so I guess not."
A proud father wouldn't have kept her hidden away from his new family. Or his first family, for that matter. He came to visit rarely, and always alone. He loved her, but it was better she wasn't around. Now he was gone, and she lost even that.
