And The Audience Says 'Duh!' (Tag: Loki)
(OOC: While Bragi is still courting 'Jondi.')
Thanks to the latest tender, romantic ballad written for Bragi's goddess, Idun now knew exactly what it sounded like when the Road God declared love. Oh, she'd heard flowery, indirect versions of the three little words for a while now, but this was the first reading that boldly declared 'I love you' without a single coating of creative language to hide behind. Idun had to remain neutrally platonic as Bragi looked up from his reading and uttered those words destined to still Jondi's heart. The direct eye contact had been necessary, he'd explained. He couldn't hide from the emotion by looking off into the distance, or mumbling the words at a spot of lint on Jondi's dress. Direct, bare, raw emotion, just like Idun had advised ages ago.
And now Idun had burned her pastry. Not a hop south of golden brown, but blackened beyond recognition.
This had never happened before, ever. She was understandably distressed. Naturally, Loki was due in the orchard at any moment. It was raining, he was going to come inside and there was a chance he wouldn't even knock, and Loki would smell the charred mess she'd made even if she swept the physical evidence out of sight. The situation was undeniably hopeless, of course. She couldn't hide how horribly she'd messed things up, and in the process of realizing this, Idun also realized she couldn't actually blame Bragi. He hadn't done anything! Wanting to blame him made it impossible to blame him somehow, and as frustration tapped patiently on her shoulder, emotional overload went for the direct approach and crashed straight into her chest instead.
She decided, right then and there, that she wasn't bringing any of this up. If Loki happened to ask why the hall smelled like she'd singed the hairs of at least six different woodland creatures, well, Idun would just shrug.
It was the only way to be fair to her friend. Loki often came to talk through an issue, and Idun sometimes sought him out for the same reason, but this wasn't something that could be helped with words. A nice case of amnesia perhaps, but not words. No, when Idun asked Loki to join her, it had been for some good food and pleasant chatter. He likely had a new adventure to tell her about. As long as Loki didn't walk in and see how distressed she was right off the bat, there was a good chance she'd get away without needing to admit that Bragi professing his love for Jondi had bothered her. Really, truly bothered her.
Idun started practicing her smile immediately as she scrounged for some wine to make up for the lack of dessert.
