An excited gasp slipped from Dani, fish roasted over a firepit? That sounded fantastic. “Perfect, I can bring the supplies to make s’mores for dessert!” she said happily, excited for the opportunity to try something new, and any excuse to indulge herself with sweets. Especially if it was s’mores.

“Definitely, but it just hasn’t been in the cards,” she admitted, not wanting to go into everything to do with her parents traveling and having to live with her grandmother. Though, now she supposed it might be in the cards. Grandma had moved out on her own, maybe now was the time to start the traveling. Her eyes grew larger as he listed all of the moving he’d done, and she gave a soft laugh. “Canada is one of the places I’d like to visit, especially Quebec. I’ve heard good things. Did you enjoy it?” She asked curiously. “Unfortunately, I’m not nearly as hip with the gossip that isn’t about the fifties and over crowd,” she admitted, before popping a chunk of watermelon into her mouth.

Her gasp of delight made Logan chuckle, as did the promise to bring dessert. "It's a plan, then," he agreed, fishing his phone from his pocket and offering it to her to fill in her contact details. "So tell me more about you," he urged. "What's your favourite thing about living in Tarrytown?" If she'd been here 'forever' then perhaps she'd know some of those locals-only spots that Benny had mentioned. "I sort of moved here on a whim," he admitted, "so I don't fully know what I'm getting into."

Nodding, he gave a slight hum. He'd never lived the kind of life where he was tethered to a single place, but he'd certainly met a lot of people who had. (Going on old, old instincts he wondered if she needed an excuse to get away.) "Where would you go, if you could go anywhere?" he asked, then laughed when she said Canada was on her list. "Other than Canada, then." Thinking back to his time in Quebec, he smiled. "Yeah, I did enjoy it. Lived outside a town called Huntingdon." There were parts of it he missed, and others he wouldn't necessarily return to. "No? I didn't think I'd seen you at the big party. Though everyone was wearing masks, so maybe I did."

The phone was taken with one hand, and she quickly typed in her first name, last initial, and her number. What could it hurt? While she did, this pondered his question for half a second. "I think it's the fact that there's such a rich history here, as well as when you mix in that it still manages to find a way to be unpredictable," she said, handing back over his phone. "Just get in touch with me whenever, I can save your number then," she explained quickly.

"Definitely wasn't at the big party," she said, still mulling over his question of just where she would go. What was the most romantic city to visit? That was Paris, wasn't it? But hadn't she heard that the French hated Americans? "I don't think I'd even know where to begin picking a place where I'd go, probably just to a secluded cabin in the woods somewhere."

"Yeah?" It wasn't the answer Logan had expected, he'd though she'd mention a particular place, or view, or the nearness to the city. Then again, Dani had said her family had a bookshop, so maybe she was just a bit more academic. "I don't know... anything about the history," he admitted, realising it was true. "I mean, I remember the Coming Out, I guess, but you mean something more than that?" He took the phone back, letting his fingers graze hers just lightly as he did. "I will," he promised, giving her a flash of a smile.

He considered her, trying to get a read. Clearly, she wasn't antisocial, she'd just agreed to a meal with a perfect stranger. Maybe she just didn't like crowds? Or maybe she hadn't wanted to go alone, which was definitely a problem Logan could help with. "Not a party girl?" he asked. "Or just busy doing something else that night?" Logan could definitely sympathise with the desire to visit a cabin in the woods. His first house had been pretty much exactly that. "Yeah, there's definitely something to be said for seclusion," he agreed. "That's why I'm having so much trouble finding a house. Everything's so crammed in here, but I've been advised by my expert that there's a lot to be said for living in Tarrytown." Besides, to get to any actual space, he'd have to go quite far away, given the vicinity of the city.

She lit up when he admitted that he didn't know much about the history. "The Selkie's have an archive at the lighthouse, and if you'd like I can put aside a couple of books that give a good summary of the area," she offered, already knowing exactly which two books she would set aside for him.

"Just busy, I am behind on a few things for the book club that I host," she admitted, the post she had seen on the board had looked like a good time. She was sure her luck hadn't run out, that maybe there'd be another party coming up soon that would be fun. "I mean, if you're in Tarrytown, you'll be able to enjoy the summer far more. I doubt that'll be the last party thrown, especially if the weather holds out this summer," she said, already dreaming of good weather.

While Logan had learned to read, eventually, it still wasn't a skill that came particularly easily to him. He could do it when he need to; he rarely volunteered without some very good reason. "I'm not a big reader," he said, crossing his arms over his chest in a way he knew drew attention to the muscles in them, a hint that he preferred to do more physical things with his time. "What if you just told me about it over fish?" He'd much rather learn by listening.

He really couldn't imagine preferring to organise a book club over going to a party, but he nodded. "What are you reading for your book club?" he asked. Just because he didn't read, didn't mean he couldn't hold a conversation about it. "I can guarantee I won't have heard of it," he added, a little teasingly, "but tell me what it's about." Hopefully, it wouldn't be the last party thrown, and Logan nodded. "Well, if you need someone to drag you to the next one, you'll have my number."

"Fair enough," she said, it wasn't the first time she had run into something who wasn't a big reader. Not everyone grew up with a family that owned a bookstore. "I would enjoy that, I'll tell you all of the best bits, while you roast the fish," she offered.

"We're reading Carrie by Stephen King, it's my first time dipping my toes into his writing," she said, though she took him at his word. She assumed that he hadn't heard of it, so she continued on. "It's about this young woman that was raised by an incredibly abusive mother that used God as a reason to, and she's bullied at school. It's really good, has a lot of good suspense, he's just really wordy," she said, rambling on just a tad. She was already eyeballing another book of his, this one larger than Carrie was. "But! Yes, I'd love to be dragged to a good party. That sounds really good right about now."

"Yeah?" Logan hadn't really thought about it from Dani's side of the equation, but he was pleased she'd enjoy it too. (And if she was only being polite and wouldn't really enjoy telling Logan about history things, he was confident he could offer to make it up to her in other ways.) "Perfect, then. And if you feel I'm using you for your knowledge of the local area, we'll do something fun after." For now, he left it ambiguous what the 'something fun' might be.

Her description made him frown slightly, not sure why anyone would want to spend their time imagining or thinking about an abusive situation. "Isn't that... depressing?" But Dani had said it was good, so Logan took her at her word that she was enjoying it. "Maybe just not my cup of tea." Hardly surprising, given he'd already said he didn't read much. It was much easier to get enthusiastic about the idea of dragging Dani to a party. "And I would enjoy that," he promised her. He liked helping make sure people were having fun, and parties were a good time, in Logan's estimation.

The ambiguous 'something fun' spiked Dani's curiosity, and she gave him a quick nod of her head. "Looking forward to it," she said, genuinely meaning it. He was easy on the eyes, willing to cook for her, and was willing to let her ramble on about the town? How could she say no? She'd have been stupid to turn it down.

"Oh! No, I just don't want to give away the entire plot. There's a movie..." She trailed off, chewing on her lower lip a moment, trying to figure out if it would ruin it to tell him about Carrie's powers, and after a moment she finally released her plump lower lip. "She gets back at them, special things happen to her. That's, I guess, supposed to be the horror bits. You really root for her though, you know? She's the underdog, they sort of deserved it," she admitted with a little wrinkle of her nose. It was in that moment that she noticed her grandmother trying to grab her attention. "I've got to go, it was really good meeting you. Sorry!" she motioned towards her grandmother, to let him know she had to go help her with her walker. It looked like she was getting ready to leave the picnic and needed some help loading up to go home.
