Filius smiled, the last of the carved pumpkins with Everlasting Candles set aloft over the Gryffindor table. Hogwarts, however changed, felt just as magical on Halloween. For all the years he had been at the schoool, this was the tiny professor's favourite holiday, the enormous feast where ghosts were revered and students delighted.
He feared the latter wouldn't hold true this year, so perhaps the decorations were slightly overdone; finished only just in time as the doors opened. Professors and Prefects and Students all poured in quickly, eager for whatever the house elves had cooked.
"Welcome!" squeaked Professor Flitwick, bustling up the aisle beside the Ravenclaw table towards where his chair sat, overlooking everything. He paused just long enough to catch the arms of Mr. Goldstein and Miss Patil, advising in a quiet whisper that they keep extra alert this evening.
