Sorry to anyone I might have woken up. Not a great first impression even though I've been here since Th.

Hi, I'm Lydia.

A lot as in how Is it weird that actually makes sense? But also I'm worried about you teaching math if that's not what you meant to do.

I’m not sure. Maybe. Just because I was off by a decimal point doesn’t mean I don’t know algebra or calculus or physics. We can’t all have time machines and fancy computers to do our calculations for us. There’s always trial and error.

Alright. Sensitive subject, got it.

You must have been more used to the fact of parallel universes when you got here.

Everyone thinks time travel is easy sci-fi crap. But it’s not. Especially when you don’t have a teacher and have to figure it out on your own from theories.

The theory of them, yes. Being here is my first experience knowingly being in one. Maybe second, due to timeline fluctuations, but I ended up here before I could learn too much about the timeline variation I ended up in.

If it was easy, I think we would have figured it out without powers involved. Or some kind of magic. Derek

Have you been tempted to make one here? I think I would be.

From my understanding, some have, but not without some computational assistance.

Not in a strictly “I dropped my ice cream and want to go back in time to prevent myself from dropping it” way.

No ice cream worth going back for here, or are you that good about not dropping things?

Cups and bowls are good for keeping ice cream from spilling. I also haven’t had much ice cream to have found one I’d rewind time for. Maybe be day.

Good thing it's my job right now to buy the ice cream for the apartment.

Are we going to need an ice cream budget? And will it cut into the coffee budget?

I can handle the ice cream side of the budget. And the coffee budget will double if I'm drinking it, too.

You may be eating more of the ice cream, too. More as a note. But I won't let it go to waste. So we're looking for a job that allows for a sizeable coffee budget. And room for clothing. Maybe one of the clothing stores is hiring? Might give you a discount on clothes.

I figured as much, which is why I don't mind being the one that pays. Not that you couldn't have any. I shouldn't get it too often anyway.

A discount sounds nice, but I'd rather get a leg up on my career. Maybe the college needs lab assistants. Or something there that pays and isn't just volunteer work.

So we have some ice cream, but we don't overdo it. Got it.

I was thinking a little more in the present or as an added part time if needed. The University of Auckland has a job board for students with a lot of different possibilities, as well as resources for jobs after graduation. What career are you going into?

So not being a student is going to ruin things for a bit. You're right, it could be a decent for-now arrangement, I guess. I don't really wan I don't have a lot of options.

Something STEM. Pure mathematics or maybe physics. Or both.

Not necessarily. And you can look at it on my account if you'd like. Get an idea of things that are offered through that resource. And options can be hard when you're new to the job field. Technically speaking, I still don't have a lot, and I've been here two years.

They do intertwine. I'm sure you're more than capable in those subjects, but if you ever want to talk either, I do like both and enjoy discussing them from time to time.

I appreciate that, and I'll take you up on it to get an idea. Just not tonight. Wait a My head's still a bit spinny. I know I don't have the luxury to wait long, though.

Yea, of course.

Just so you know, I'm not going to throw you out if it takes time to get a job. I'm not a millionaire, but I do have enough money to not want for the basics, or even more than the basics. If you need time to adjust, and it takes some time to get school and a job sorted out, it's okay. You have a place to stay until you no longer want to.

I didn't think you would, and it's nice to hear that confirmed, but I want to do my part too. Even if it was just subconscious, there would be a power dynamic there if I didn't. One I'm not really happy with. Besides, maybe it's a push I need. After I manage to get some decent sleep.

What if, while you're working to find a job and getting signed up for school (and in school if you've got that sorted before a job), we work to make it so you're doing your part by splitting things up around the apartment? We both clean up after ourselves, but if the communal spaces need straightening up, you could do it, and whoever makes meals, the other does the dishes. You could do shopping or errands during the week, and I can grab anything needed on the way home or do them on the weekends.

And I do realize that sounds like Cinderella or a live-in maid, but that's not how I mean it. I'm just trying to think of a way that has us both contributing, and it would shift as you adjust and settle and get into school and find a job. I wouldn't expect anything, and I'm more than capable of cleaning my own clothes and can and do clean up after myself. I'm just trying to brainstorm and think of things that'll help. And this is why I should be on my own. It's just

[ ... ] I mean, I was essentially volunteering to do that somewhat earlier, so I'm not upset. But I'm also not going to sit back and not look for a job just because you've offered to pay for things. And I want some of what they gave me to go toward the shared funds. ...After I buy like two more bottoms and tops and maybe a dress. And a different pair of shoes. And a pj set. But the rest of it I want added to the pile that we'll both be drawing from.

Given what little I know of you and what I have seen of you so far, I'd find it strange if you did sit back and not look for a job. You seem far more motivated than that. And done. Once you've gotten all you need, we'll put the rest in the pile.

Well, that's—I'm not sure I know myself at the moment, so thanks for not thinking poorly of me. And thanks for agreeing. If there's something I can do to make things easier for you while we're in this stage...
