Tanym had seen Anne off so she could return home- needing a fresh change of clothes and what not. He decided to take Kirby for his much needed walk. Getting dressed himself, keeping it casual, he leashed the dog up and they went on their way. Tanym had no destination or route in mind, but he knew the walk would do him good, let him clear his head and organize his thoughts. Somehow he ended up arriving at the flea market in Monastraki and caught himself looking over some of the stalls. Kirby sniffed at all the people and things he could- including the woman at the stall next to him.
Chloe lived for shopping. It was a bad habit, yes, to spend as frivolously as she did, but she had an excuse this time. Antiques, especially foreign ones, always made the greatest decorations for the restaurants and spas she ran. Conversation pieces or just pleasing to the eye, the little blonde was always looking for new - well, old - fun things to pick up on her travels and Abyssinia Square seemed to be holding a lot of promise. Already she'd purchased a vase and desk, both of which she'd had sent to her hotel for Charlie to deal with.
She was halfway down Adrianou Street when a touch of a cold nose to her ankle caught her by surprise. Chloe squeaked then laughed as she bent to pet the adorable little dog who appeared to be the culprit. "Well aren't you the cutest little thing," the Texan cooed at the animal, scratching behind the ear.
Kirby's tail wagged and tried to lick at the hand petting him happily. "Kerberus." Tanym scolded, having been distracted by some old receipe books. He looked at the woman who had crouched to pet the terrier, an american by the sound of her. "I am so sorry." He said, his accent not as thick as other Greeks.
The dog's name sent a chill down Chloe's spine. Hesitantly, she pulled her hand back, away from the animal and slowly lifted her eyes to meet his owner's while she stood. Automatically, her stomach clenched painfully as if he'd physically struck her. Blood rushed from her head and the tiny blonde made a quick grab for the nearest stall in order to remain on her feet. What in the sweet Lord's name was wrong with her? "Musta stood up too fast," she muttered softly, giving him a weak smile though she was unable to meet his gaze again just yet. Instead, she continued to cling to the antique stall, calming her breath, slowing her pulse and stilling her quaking hands.
She looked as if she were going to fall down. Reaching out to her for support. "It can get you very fast. Do you need to sit down?" He asked, knowing there had to be a seat of a bench somewhere. "You alright?"
Chloe shook off his hand while tossing her head, the thought of him touching her making her skin crawl. "I-I'm fine," she replied and flushed more at her stuttering. "But, thank you." The gratitude cost her something, made her tighten and heart throb once more but the petite business woman, clothed in yet another flowy sundress, was finally able to meet his gaze once more. Her own eyes were too large, burning a bright hazel as she studied his face, trying to figure out how and if she knew this man and why he caused such... such... revulsion in her. "I'm alright. Thank you."
Tanym nodded. "Alright then." Kirby for his part was not taking to his attention being taken away so fast and let out a pathetic little bark at the woman. "Kirby. Συμπεριφερθείτε." He scolded as he reached down and lifted the pup and holding him in one arm. "I am sorry for him, he loves being out of the house and around people." Meanwhile, the man at the stall that Tanym had been looking at had become impatient with the distraction and proceeded to converse in greek as to whether he would be purchasing the box he'd inquired about. He appologized to the man- something he seemed to be doing a lot recently- and paid him.
(Behave)
"He's precious," Chloe replied honestly with another small smile. Absently, one hand pressed to her stomach while the other rubbed at her arm. How odd to be suddenly chilled in such weather. "And I can understand his preference: I'm all for being outdoors as often as possible."
"He's a pain." Tanym informed her as he tucked his newly purchased treasure under his arm. "But he's also really my only friend." With the hours he worked. "Well not -only-..." Especially recently. He smiled at her, taking a moment to actually look at the person he was conversing with and realized that she seemed familiar to him.
Under his gaze, the petite woman shivered again and fought down the surge of contempt that threatened to overtake her senses. Despite his smile, Chloe found she couldn't return it no matter how hard she tried. This man, this stranger whose face she didn't know but who seemed as familiar as Tristan had, caused her to experience sides of herself that she'd thought she'd buried after her second divorce. Coldness. Loss. Anger. She shook her head again, trying to physically dislodge the feelings. "I'm sorry. I... I don't know what's come over me," she admitted and pressed a palm to her forehead. There was a desire to run. A need to rid herself of his presence. However, because childhood lessons and business etiquette prevailed, rudely running back to her hotel was not an option.
He shook his head. "It is warm today, perhaps you've just been in the sun too long?" Tanym said, feeling a strange need to confirm her well being. However, a part of him was telling him to tread lightly. It was as if her comfort and understanding were very important- but not a feeling that came directly from him, almost like it was important for someone else.
Despite never having had had an issue with too much sun before, Chloe nodded her agreement. "That must be it," she replied and, after a moment's pause, reached into her bag to retrieve a bottle of water which she sipped generously from. Dehydration. Had to be. It did all sorts of crazy things to one's body and mind. "I'm sorry. Again. You were shopping with you dog and then with me being all..." She waved her freehand and sighed. "I didn't mean to interrupt your afternoon."
"You know." He laughed slightly. "It's not a problem at all, Kirby's been pretty good recently at seeking out people who..." Ok, Tanym had to stop talking, he was going to come off an insane person. "... I don't mind being interrupted by."
Her lips twitched up in another half-hearted smile at what she took as a 'smooth move' on his part. While Chloe usually adored being hit on by younger men, the episode of dehydration was making this whole meeting rather unpleasant. Each time she met his eyes, there was another wave of ice that passed through her veins. "He must have very good taste then... and be a vegetarian, seeing as he wouldn't get much meat off my bones if he tried."
Tanym laughed a bit harder, picking up on how he must have sounded. "No... I mean yes, he has good taste but..." I'm taken? "He tends to..." How to put it without the insanity? "Have a knack for bothering people who make good -friends-." But he wasn't really getting a 'friend' vibe off her.
"Ah," she answered. Taking another long swallow of water, Chloe placed her bottle bag in her bag and as she brushed a lock of long, golden hair from her face, tried to muster one more polite grin. She could do civil. Hell, she'd charmed and disarmed far uglier and ruder men in her time so why was just talking to this person such a trial? "Unfortunately, I'm only here for a few weeks and most of that time is being eaten up by business. It's rather hard to make, um, friends and keep them with such little time to spend together."
"I can actually sympathize with you there." He replied. "My work keeps me busy good majority of the time. It is a rare occasion that I am out anywhere beside the store or the hospital." And despite everything that had happened over the past twenty four hours, he still wished to go to work and do what he loved to do- even if he -had- started to talk to the corpses.
"Hospital? You're a doctor?" Something about that struck Chloe as odd. She couldn't imagine him as such no matter how hard she tried. He seemed genuine enough; had been civil, even courteous so far... so why was she still having such a hard time holding a conversation with him??
Tanym nodded. "Yes, I'm currently working on a forensic pathology fellow, but I still put in time in the ER when there are shifts to be picked up." He replied. "My name is Tanym by the way."
She gave him a blank look - heavy science was certainly not her forte - then tried to cover with a more charming smile when he introduced himself. "Chloe," the blonde replied though she didn't extend her hand for a warm shake. "It's nice to make your acquaintance," she added, even if it wasn't particularly true. This man threw her off kilter, something the petite business woman was not accustomed to.
"Chloe." He replied. "It's a pleasure. So, if I may ask… what is it you do for a living?" Tanym couldn't have shaken her hand if he wanted, a box of recipes in one hand and a pup who was complacent to just hang out in the other.
"A little of this and that," she said off-handedly and folded her arms across her chest once more. "I run Chloe's Kitchen, Inc. which is a health franchise in the States. Resturants, spas, gyms, cookbooks, gardening, self-help and all that other nonsensethat promotes long lives. Career ADD is what it actually is," the blonde chuckled. "A touch of everything I've ever been interested in all wrapped up in one big bundle."
"Sounds very accomplished." He responded with a gentle smile. "Well then, I guess I'll let you get back to your shopping." Tanym leaned down and put Kirby back to the ground- making sure to have a tight grasp on his leash. "I think I've found my find of the day." He motioned the box under his arm.
"Not accomplished so much as lucky," Chloe admitted, with a small shrug of one shoulder. "A lot of things fell into place for me, thank the sweet Lord." Positive thinking, silver linings; she tried to focus on keeping her energy bright, something that was made much easier when he announced his intention to leave. For the first time in the whole conversation, her smile touched her eyes. "And I still have a lot to explore. I hope you have a pleasant rest of your day. You, too, puppy," she cooed at the animal and gave it a little wave even as she bypassed using its name.
He gave her a little wave and started off with dog in tow. Tanym wondered who he could be to bring out such conflicting feelings inside of him. Was she even apart of this, or was his mind forcing his own dealings onto the persona of strangers to help sort through them? No, that wasn't it. If he'd learned anything in the past week- hell the past day, it was that he shouldn't ignore the feelings. As he looked back over his shoulder he saw her, not as she was but as a woman, sad and surrounded by an earth of white.
Chloe released the breath she didn't even know she'd been holding as he walked away, then gave her weight over to the stall, again. How incredible disorienting. Never had she experienced something like that. The cold finality of his mere presence made her shiver... but the little blonde was still at a loss for why! Shivering once again, she shook her head to clear away the rest of the chill and began her own trek back to her hotel. She was in serious need of a long smoke.
