My first ever Icon Tutorial.
I've never done one of these before so bear with me okay. redrose_7272 ask me how I did the icon of Gus. I'm going to try to do a step by step for you to get this icon.
The image I used is this one capped by me.
Duplicate the image. so you have two images to work with.
Next crop one of the images so you have something that looks like this.
Next I sharpened the image.
Then go to layers, Adjustment Layer, Levels: Set your level to 0 1.43 255 then hit OK Then I went to Brighten/Contrast Set your Brighten to +12 and your Contrast to +26.
It should look something like this:
Flatten the image and put it aside for now.
Next I took the copy of the cap and cropped it so I would have something that looks like this.
Sharpen the image,
Then I went to Levels again and set them to 0 1.35 255. Brighten/Contrast Brighten +23 Contrast +41 Then I did a Curves layer Input 190 Output 221.
It should look something like this
Flatten and set aside.
I then started working on the base part of the icon. I did a new image. white 100x100 and filled it with color cdcdcd.
I then took this texture. Unknown Maker, If you know who made this please let me know so I can credit properly
and placed it over the gray and set it to soft light. 100%
Then I used this texture. Unknown Maker, If you know who made this please let me know so I can credit properly.
and placed it over the other and set it to soft light 100%
Take the first cropping of Gus and using the Lasso tool carefully outline his face, feather at 5. Move the feathered image onto the texture and set the opacity to 35%
Next using the Pen tool I carefully cut out the second image of Gus and place it over the texture so you have something that looks like this.
Finished icon will look something like this.
Optional I used this tiny text brush Made by lj's coy_dreamer as decoration.
Place it over the image and set it to multiply bringing the opacity down to 26% then using the erase tool carefully erasing the text on Gus' face.
I've never done a step by step tutorial before. I hope it was easy to follow. The settings I used are just that settings. Play around with them and see what you come up with. For me every icon I make is a learning experience. I look forward to your input on this my very first tutorial.
