After Ms. Vector's announcement yesterday...the prefects, Head Boy, and Head Girl have a lot of decisions to make. To facilitate discussion, Cecil and Maggie have called a prefect meeting that will take place in one of the empty classrooms during dinner (to accommodate everyone's schedules). Everyone is encouraged to bring their food to the meeting and Cecil has spent part of the afternoon baking so there are cookies too. The meeting isn't mandatory, but this will be the only chance the prefects have to give their opinions prior to the final decisions being made. Anyone that does attend is expected to be patient, respectful, and open toward other prefects. Those that can't be civil will be asked to leave. That means you, Casper.

The discussion will circle around three topics: curfew, the Grotto, and the post made by the Anonymous Writer. Each discussion will end with a blind vote. No one will see how individual prefects vote on a given issue and only Cecil and Maggie will know the results. While the results of the votes will not necessarily determine the policies, they will be taken into consideration by the Head Boy and Head Girl.

Players will have until 11PM CST on Friday to respond and vote. Cecil or Maggie will announce the official prefect position on Saturday morning before the Anonymous Writer's post goes up. Please include any questions or comments in the OOC section below! Non-prefect players are welcome to toss their two cents there as well.

Tess shows up looking as stressed as Rafael - probably worse. She is trying to be productive, but her body language says "beware" whether she wants it to or not.

"I'm one of the ones out before 6 most days, and I haven't ever had a problem," Tess says with as diplomatic a tone as she can manage, but there's still a missing snake out there and two assholes who, and she's struggling to keep her face from saying fight me. "I don't really see the big difference, considering it's still dark at 6 too."

In the seat beside Tess, Quinn lightly bumps her shoulder against the other girl's and mutters, "It's cool," under her breath. (A patented bestie chill-out technique from the Jesse McBride Book of Stop Giving A Fuck.)

Tess is new to the idea of Stop Giving a Fuck. She may need to read this book.

To prove she had a point other than just being contrary, Tess adds, "Maybe we should say that anyone out between six and sunrise has to let their prefect know they're going and where they're planning to go."

"Why the fuck are you guys up so early?" Jesse asks through a mouthful of cookie.

Tess looks at Jesse on the other side of Quinn, pushes her sleeve back, and flexes.

"The more I work out, the more cookies I can eat."

Quinn nods sagely and bumps fists with Tess. Look at those powerful forearms colliding! Quake beneath their might. "Bulk and cut, my friend."

This is all completely related to prefect business. Promise.

"The difference is that 6 is the rule, as arbitrary as it is," Ravi says. "Even Ms. Vector has acknowledged that staff has been lenient about enforcing that. But now they're requesting that everyone obey curfew hours as they're written. We should respect that."

"I never said we shouldn't," Tess replies, crossing her arms, "I'm just pointing out that anything that could happen at five could happen at six. Is adhering to the letter of the law all we're worried about?"

"What time do you go out, Tess?" Maggie asks sweetly. Then, so it doesn't appear too obvious that nepotism is about to be involved (jk, it's still obvious), she looks to Cecil, "Cecil? You're an early bird jogger, aren't you? Have you ever encountered anything? Do you think mornings are safe?"

Cecil nods, because most of the time he is an early bird, but the answer he gives isn't the one that Maggie's fishing for. "I am. And I've never encountered anything, but I think Ravi's right. The faculty wants us to enforce curfew and it's a simple change to make. So I think we should make it." He gives Tess an apologetic look, but that's all. "It might be an inconvenience, but everyone that runs in the morning can adjust our schedules for a while. Tess and me included."

"Frankie'll be thrilled that I have to get up an hour later," Ree puts in with a roll of her eyes. It's not particularly helpful, no, but it's tacit support from another runner-prefect, so there's that.

Tess is momentarily disarmed, because while she can go toe to toe all day with people answering aggression with aggression, transitioning into sweet is not as easy.

"Uh, five, five-thirty, depending," she says. "I don't mind waiting til six," she says again, "I'm just saying six is an arbitrary time. We have a curfew, but ghosts or whatever don't. We should look into safety measures between six and sun up. And between dinner and ten, for that matter."

She shrugs, "Or maybe we leave a couple of wrist watches in the grotto with a note that says, 'Please limit your spooky shit to the hours between 10 - 6.'"

"The only exception should be scheduled parties," Rafael insists. "Too many exceptions, things get confusing. Then people start nitpicking why excuse this, why not that, why not then. If we keep it to just parties, everyone will know where we stand."

"Agreed. Ideally, we shouldn't be doing any exceptions, because someone will always nitpick the fact that the prefects make exceptions to school rules. But Quinn is right in saying that people will insist on holding Grotto parties anyway. Maggie suggested midnight as a reasonable time."

Ravi stands up and walks to the blackboard in front of the room. He writes in chalk:

CURFEW
  1. 10PM–6AM, No Exceptions
(Grotto parties must end at 10PM)

  2. 10PM–6AM, Excepting Scheduled Grotto Parties
(Grotto parties must end at 12AM)

"These are our two proposals so far. I think we can agree 'not enforcing any kind of curfew' isn't an option."

"People are going to balk enough at these changes without forcing the normal curfew onto Grotto parties. Midnight makes more sense," Casper pipes up, matter-of-fact and obviously certain that he's right.

Casper twitches and turns around enough to glare at Jesse...but forces himself not to answer. He clenches his jaw, turns around, and stays silent.

Jesse gets a sharp (but slow, so he doesn't have a reason to shout~) elbow to his ribs as soon as Casper turns back to the front of the classroom. Quinn's hand may also be hiding a smirk, it's hard to tell.

As Quinn's boney elbow slowly sinks into his side, Jesse can be heard softly humming a familiar P. Diddy tune.

Of course Quinn is right! Quinn is always right (or so she'll say). But Tess is also right.

She raises her hand, bouncing excitedly in her chair. "Mr. Dhaliwal? Mr. Dhaliwal, can you please add Tess' suggestion to the list, just like number two except that students should inform their prefects beforehand if they'll be out to exercise before curfew is lifted? Thank you!" Quinn settles back down, but then looks like she forgot something very important and quickly thrusts her hand back in the air. "Sorry, Mr. Dhaliwal! I forgot to ask, what chapters do we have to read for next week's test?" She bats her eyelashes at the poor boy standing at the blackboard. She thinks she's hilarious.

The thing about being a rule-abiding goody two-shoes is that Ravi's had classmates giving him shit for the entire time he's been at this school. It takes more than Quinn's antics to ruffle him. "Thank you, Miss Cunningham," he replies as he turns back to write down Tess' suggestion. "And do you mean the Transfig or the DADA test? Because those are both next week."

She'll stop now, promise.
