After Ms. Vector's announcement yesterday...the prefects, Head Boy, and Head Girl have a lot of decisions to make. To facilitate discussion, Cecil and Maggie have called a prefect meeting that will take place in one of the empty classrooms during dinner (to accommodate everyone's schedules). Everyone is encouraged to bring their food to the meeting and Cecil has spent part of the afternoon baking so there are cookies too. The meeting isn't mandatory, but this will be the only chance the prefects have to give their opinions prior to the final decisions being made. Anyone that does attend is expected to be patient, respectful, and open toward other prefects. Those that can't be civil will be asked to leave. That means you, Casper.

The discussion will circle around three topics: curfew, the Grotto, and the post made by the Anonymous Writer. Each discussion will end with a blind vote. No one will see how individual prefects vote on a given issue and only Cecil and Maggie will know the results. While the results of the votes will not necessarily determine the policies, they will be taken into consideration by the Head Boy and Head Girl.

Players will have until 11PM CST on Friday to respond and vote. Cecil or Maggie will announce the official prefect position on Saturday morning before the Anonymous Writer's post goes up. Please include any questions or comments in the OOC section below! Non-prefect players are welcome to toss their two cents there as well.

After the long discussion (JUST A GUESS) regarding the Grotto, Cecil has a bit of a headache, but they've still got one more topic to discuss: the Anonymous Writer. This one...he's been considering since last night and still doesn't have any real solution for. He folds his arms against the table and glances around at the others before starting once again. "All right. The entry written by the Anonymous Writer. I'm honestly not sure that there's a good way to stop people from doing this. We could collect the journals before it happens, but that's unreasonable, unfair, and would feel like a major invasion of privacy to everyone. Us included, I'd imagine. We could arrange some kind of mandatory event in the Lodge or another location that would make writing anonymously more difficult, but I doubt that would be received well and I don't know if we have the numbers to herd that many cats." He manages a thin smile at this, then shrugs, then sighs. "So. I'm open to suggestions?"

"So, I don't like the anonymous posts. I never have," Rosy says, handily forgetting the part where she always comments on the anonymous posts. "But... I just don't see how we can police it. When people are together they seem to have even more fun with it."

"This might be a lost cause," Rafael sighs in reluctant agreement, clearly not thrilled that this can't be controlled. "Having an overlapping activity will distract some students, but not the ones who enjoy it most. Besides, it appears around when the sun goes down, and is most active after curfew. Which we just discussed how to be more serious about."

"We can't stop them," Ravi agrees. "Journals are personal possessions, not school property. And as it stands, there aren't any rules forbidding people from writing on the anonymous posts. Only Mr. Calderon-Boot's disapproval, and that hasn't been enough to discourage anyone for two years now."

He sighs. He dislikes sounding so negative, but this isn't a simple issue. "Maybe the only thing we can do is warn people to be careful about what they say on the anonymous posts. It's clear that the Writer knows everyone's identities."

Ferdie is a supportive Ribbonfin today. "That's a good idea. Even though unfortunately I don't think many people will listen unless something bad was to actually happen in connection to the actual anonpost. Which I hope doesn't happen." He adds quickly, as he's trying to be realistic, not doomsday, here.

"The Writer knows who we are," Rosy says. And knows where we sleep, she does not say. "We could remind people they're not anonymous to everyone, but, yeah, without tangible consequences that might just... intrigue some people more." This was an unproductive comment.

"We can also be more vigilant on the posts itself," Olivia adds. "It's all anonymous but we go to school with these kids. If we can identify them, there needs to be actual repercussions. Bullying on the post is still bullying and turning a blind eye or ignoring the post doesn't negate what happens on it. Last month was brutal. It was systematically brutal and more of us should've stepped up."

"I don't know about repercussions, there's just no way to be beyond a reasonable doubt levels of sure who someone is on those posts," Rosy shrugs, because Rosy always has to start with a negative. "But you're right that we should be stepping up. Ravi is the only one of us consistently trying to encourage some decency and the rest of us just ignore it or dive on in."

"Alright, it seems we agree that our ability to stop people is very limited. But we aren't powerless. These are the suggestions..."

THE ANONYMOUS WRITER
  1. Mandatory Group Event
(Everyone being together will discourage writing?)

  2. Caution People to be More Careful
(Anonymous knows our identities—why does it want info about us?)

  3. Encourage People to be Kinder
(Active effort to combat bullying on the post?)

Ravi thoughtfully taps the chalk against the board. "Is there anything else we can do?"

"Anonymous has asked a question and promised a reward every month," Olivia offers. "Maybe we can try to be more proactive about finding out if they've made good on their promise and what their gifts actually are. If the staff can't prevent anonymous from using the journals, it's only logical to assume the staff also can't prevent anonymous from giving contraband to other students. Possibly dangerous contraband. If we know who received the gifts, it might tell us a little more about anonymous's intentions."

Rosy bites her lip for a second before replying. "I, uh... I think I got one of the prizes," she says, a little uncertainly. "I wasn't sure, but then they asked me about it last month. It wasn't anything bad, though. I even told Mr. Hightower about it."

Olivia perks up slightly. "Uh, do you mind me asking what the prize was?" She asks. She doesn't know if that's a personal question, but the anon's questions are always personal questions, so it feels like it might be?

Quinn votes for #2 & #3 together, and scribbles NO MANDATORY EVENTS! at the bottom of her ballot.

The point that the anonymous writer knows who writes what has scared her straight. For now. Mostly.

Ravi votes this as well. He's not adamantly against mandatory group events, but there will be a lot of resistance already and no one likes dealing with how whiny their classmates are about the rules.

Casper votes for all of these options. If the people in this school had any sense, they'd have put their journals aside by now. He's willing to be a jerk (and deal with whiny classmates and even endure a group event) to put an end to this bullshit...though it seems pretty clear that nobody else is. Whatever.

He's kind of cynical about option 3 despite trying to talk about it in discussion. If that was going to work, it would've already. He's kind of cynical about this option too, but safety seems the important thing to focus on.
