MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

Said door opens once Ravi finally glances up from his book to see someone standing outside. "Isaiah?" It's automatic instinct now to look above everyone's heads when you start talking to them, and yes, unsurprisingly, Ravi spots mistletoe. "Oh... no. When did that one appear?" He sighs.

"Just in time to destroy what was left of my faith in the universe?" Isaiah asks. He's too exhausted to be just incredibly pissed off anymore. That has run its course. Instead he's wry and almost matter-of-fact.

"We're far too young to be so cynical." Ravi frowns as his eyes follow the progress of the mistletoe vines. "Maybe I should try marking the ground everywhere one of these is growing, at least around Ribbonfin. But first..." He holds a hand out to Isaiah. "Do you want help?"

"Do that tomorrow," Isaiah says, exasperated. "You're off the clock now. And I don't want help." He doesn't. At all. "I'm sick of help. But I need it, so I guess we're doing this."

Ravi nods instead of responding to the first part. He already knows he's not going to leave it be, but he's willing to pretend he is until Isaiah's safely inside and behind his privacy curtain.

"I'm sorry, Isaiah. I'll make it quick." Ravi waits patiently for Isaiah to hold out his hand.

Isaiah is not an idiot. He knows Ravi isn't going to leave it. Which means he's not going to leave it either, because Ravi us his friend, and what Ravi wrote earlier holds true both ways: Isaiah ' s terrible day doesn't invalidate Ravi's. If the prefect isn't going to lay off being responsible yet, Isaiah will just have to help him.

He sighs. Audibly. Today is the worst.

"Fine, come on, do it so we can go map the mistletoe in Ribbonfin and get to bed."

"I can ask Asher, you know. I don't want you forced to endure these awkward kisses every time one of us accidentally gets stuck." Ravi leans down to give Isaiah's hand the lightest peck he can manage, but still enough of a kiss to satisfy the mistletoe charm. By now, he's had plenty of practice at it.

Still, he's smiling a little when he straightens up again. Isaiah's obviously in a horrible mood, but he's still insisting on helping. Ravi's going to miss him terribly once they graduate. "But if you're going to be as stubborn as I am, let me get my coat and I'll be right out."

"It is, shockingly, less awkward when it's your roommate of four years doing the kissing," Isaiah muses, nodding his thanks when that little brush of lips rocks and he can walk again. "I guess that's what comes of hearing a person snore every night since fourteen."

He waits, tapping his foot, though really that's because he's gotten shockingly little playing done during the past few days and he'll take the outlet of rhythm if nothing else is available.
