MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

"I guess it's less about whether your feet are touching the stupid ground and more about if you're ... in a standing position? Like. If you went through on your hands on a skateboard, would they stop? Or if I was like midair or whatever?"

He tries to move the board to no avail.

"Okay. Test two?"

"It's surprisingly complicated for a plant."

She rights herself and leans up onto her toes to press a quick kiss to the hinge of his jaw before nodding solemnly.

"Test two."

There's a tiny pleased smirk on Wilde's face.

"Do you think you actually could roll under on your hands?"

He eases the board toward her with his foot. "Maybe you'd need to practice or whatever. I dunno."

"Maybe," she pokes at the board with the tip of one toe, looking speculative. "You'd have to spot me."

She points a finger.

"I can't break anything, though. I've got work next week."

"I've got you," Wilde promises. "Here, you can like -- kinda use me for support until you're right under. And--"

He pulls the hat off his head, leaving it a fuzzy mess, and transfigures it into a cushion for falling onto.

"And, ah -" she perks up. "Hold your board still for me."

And then she's flipped neatly onto her palms, carefully testing out the give of the skateboard with one hand before putting any real weight onto it.

Which works, but - now she's still.

"Okay. This is good. You look fine."

Wilde is reallyyyyy amused by this, and he has the kind of unabashedly excited look he only gets when some kind of limit is being tested. He has one hand on the back of the board, and the other kind of looped in a defensive position, ready to wrap an arm around Roxanne if it looks like she might fall.

"I'm going to push you a little bit. 1, 2..."

"I look like an idiot."

She laughs, body shaking with it for a moment, before clearing her throat and straightening herself in a vaguely professional manner.

Because she's a professional. Totally.

She wobbles slightly when he pushes her (only slightly, but then she's not a tumbler) but manages to stay upright - or successfully upside-down, as it were - for the entire trip underneath the mistletoe, crowing victoriously when she keeps going.

"Test two - success!"

"A highly coordinated idiot."

Who makes it all the way under! Wilde feels oddly proud, even though he didn't actually do anything, and lets out a little celebratory whoop.

"Fuck yeah, dude. You didn't even need the hat pillow."
