MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

Today had been the most indoors he had been in a while and it drove him nuts. Risking the epidemic, Kele makes it to the trails, pushes a branch to the side and finds himself stuck.

"Hello?"

"HI!"

Laurel, recently freed by Insert-Character-Here, and endlessly energised by the wondrous sighting of that WEIRD TURTLE, is a bundle of energy.

She knows Kele because of dance things, vaguely -- and also his being in Boating Club with Ivy, something she's dropped in on like once. Maybe twice. In short -- she hasn't interacted with him too much, but she's still happy to see him.

"Oh boy, do I get to add you to my collection?"

At first, Kele thought Laurel was Ivy, being aware they were twins, but he had interacted with Ivy so much more. With a shy smile, he tilted his head and when she spoke he knew he would have made a fool of himself calling her by the wrong name.

"You're keeping a collection?" He laughed. "If you want to? I think I might die of exposure if you don't."

"I'm collecting a collection."

It IS really cold.

Laurel makes her way closer through the snow, ducking under the branch somewhat to look at him. "Do you know warming charms? You can make your clothes like -- here." A little murmured warming charm is directed at Kele's jacket.

"I sew those into winter stuff. I'll never die!! ... Like this, anyway. Okay! Kisses? Are you a cheek person or a hand person or a lips person?"

"I never really needed warming charms back home." His voice was softer as she approached and he laughed. The newly warmed jacket felt better than the cold of the forested trails. "I'll have to remember this spell now if I'm going to survive."

Though the cold hid any blushing, Kele instinctively lowered his eyes in embarrassment of the question. "I tried kissing hands, but it's really weird. So I suppose either lips or cheek. Your preference."

"Ughhh I wanna go somewhere warm? When I leave Gooseberry I just go to Seattle and it's not cold cold but just gross sometimes?"

"I can teach you other things too, if you want? I work on clothes and stuff all the time. Also, YES. Kissing hands is absolutely weird! I asked for it a couple times and it was like ... too m'lady."

So Laurel pops up on her toes a bit and kisses him on the corner of the mouth. It's a casual movement, and her arm loops through his to help him through the snow and back toward the path.

"Next time we have a break, you could always come to Hawaii." Kele offers. His island was not exactly a big community, but having a few mainland friends around would not be the first time.

"That sounds cool. I don't mind learning new things." Kele smirks. "I kissed Isaiah on the hand and he started laughing. I guess I looked too formal. But really, back home we kiss each other all the time. Cheeks are a greeting, rubbing noses, it's a lot less formal there."

Back on the path, Kele lowers his dark eyes and gives Laurel a shy smile. "Thank you."
