MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

"Probably have more luck calling for a demon. We're all dicks over here," Chris points out, but he's coming anyway.

"Chris!!" Ty's relief and impatient need and glee are written all over his face; there are some people in Coppertale that might see him stuck and just keep walking, but Chris definitely isn't one of them. "Save me and you'll be my angel! There will be statues and cheers in your honor and...!" He trails off, his enthusiasm flagging into something considerably more pitiful as he stretches out his hands to make needy little grabbing gestures. "...Help?" Always a ball of energy, always on the go, it's clear he has no ability to cope with this particular hex.

Calm down, Ty. It's been like ten minutes.

Chris rolls his eyes. But Ty's right. Chris can't just walk past him. Not when he's so pathetic and immobile. That'd be like taking part in his torture. Chris goes to Ty, careful to remain out of the actual danger zone. "I expect a statue taller than me, now hold still," he says very seriously and leans forward to kiss Ty's cheek. "Now this is like cooties. I kissed you, now you have to be part of the smooch squad which is a stupid name, and kiss other people in our honor."

Ty, obviously, doesn't have the resources or the skills to make a statue. But he nods anyway before doing as he's told and going still while Chris kisses his cheek. As soon as he can move, he hurries away from the spot and does a happy little good-to-be-free spin and beams at his roommate. "Thanks, man! I owe you! An-" He blinks; apparently he's been conscripted. "Wait, what?"

Chris nearly laughs but he can't because he has a reputation. "Smooch squad. Has a competition with Ramirez's kiss patrol prefect shit. On who can free the most people. Of course it's coppertale. And of course we're gonna fucking win. So congratulations, I'm recruiting you. The cost of your freedom, buddy. Because and I quote - you owe me."

Ty's lips thinned for a moment; normally, he wouldn't want to get involved in any competition between Rafael and Chris because they're both his friends and he doesn't like conflict and he does like have a semi-peaceful place to live (when it can be managed). But. This can't possibly be that serious a competition, can it? And the prefects are almost certainly in this to help the students, so more people should be better, right? And he does owe Chris.

He shrugs and grins, "Okay. Sure. Sign me up. Do I get a stamp or something? To mark all the people I'm going to smoooooch?" Clearly, he's taking this very seriously.
