MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing ~~game~~ plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS

Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

The mistletoe catches him by surprise when he leaves for breakfast. Why he hadn't anticipated that the mistletoe would spread outside and all the way to Ribbonfin, Ravi doesn't know. Optimism, maybe. Being December, it's fairly cold, and Ravi's frowning as he thinks about how many people are going to get stuck outside today. He'll have to organize the Ribbonfin prefects into organized patrols all day, to catch the people at camp. Unless Rafael's already done that...

Ravi's standing on the walkway outside the sophomore cabin, deep in thought, so it's no surprise that a few freshmen pass by without realizing he's stuck.

Calvin is so wrapped up in his own thoughts, as well as the notes in his hand, that he runs right into Ravi. Just a bump, but when he realizes who that bump was against, his heart skips a beat. He gasps and jumps back, as pleasantly started as one might have been if they'd walked outside and seen a unicorn.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you." He clutches his notebook and smiles demurely down at Ravi.

"No, no, no. I should be the one to apologize. I was more or less asking for it by standing in everyone's way." The apology is automatic—Ribbonfin instincts—but he really was spacing out.

Still, that's not the worst thing if it let him run into Calvin this morning. They've been so busy lately, it feels like they've hardly gotten the chance to talk. Ravi smiles sheepishly as he points at the mistletoe above his head. "May I ask for your help?"

"'Anything'? Ah, you won't be saying that once you've seen the Hermeticism workbook I found. Hm... hold on."

He's carrying a change of shoes for when he gets to the lodge, which only leaves him with one free hand. He shifts his shoes onto his arm to try pulling off one of his gloves, but it's awkward. Ravi laughs ruefully. "This would probably be easier with a real kiss... Do you think the pranksters planned for this?" He moves to put his indoor shoes on the ground.

	"I can give you a real kiss," Calvin blurts out. Now he's committed. "On the... the cheek, I mean, so that you won't have to worry about juggling everything in your arms. Ravi looks up in surprise. "Are you sure?"

It takes a second to weigh whether or not he'd mind, but only a second. He doesn't like doing all this stuff in public. The kissing, the forced intimacy with near-strangers, the lack of choice in the matter. But Calvin... Calvin's his friend. Plus, he probably has better things to do this morning than waste time talking to Ravi.

"Alright. I do believe I wouldn't mind at all." He smiles, and turns his cheek to Calvin.
