PRIVATE TO BAILEY HARTMAN, DIANA GAM, ANTONIA PAPADAKIS

Bailey, you can take my name off your list because after seeing the Sophomore Girls' post about the dance, I'm out. Have fun though! Eat your metaphorical popcorn, make some memories. Blah, blah, blah.

PRIVATE TO SUSANA VALESQUEZ
Happy birthday. I made you something. You free after dinner?

Gooseberry, enough nonsense. We've had a plague, some sledding, upcoming dance excitement, and what do I see?? A bunch of whiners. If you make a decision to partake in something against the rules, you do not have the right to whine about the consequences afterwards. Unless you're trying to bring down the establishment, of course. That is the only free pass. Quit moaning about your broken whatever or the stupid whoever that won't take you to the dance. Woman up and take some goddamn control over your life. That's the end of that PSA.

Anyway, the night of the dance, I'm not saying I'm holding an anti-dance hang-out, but. Let me know if you're interested.

Preach. I mean, I'm sure the guys are just as bad? But, c'mon ladies.

Boys don't have all of society telling them they can't take charge of their own lives and be better than if not equal to men, though. So it doesn't grind my gears quite as much if the guys are equally chickenshit. Just makes me sad, since they could avoid all this by asking me. I do wish you'd come to the dance anyway, Marty!

I don't know, Bae. Lend the sophomores your magic, because rip my fucking head off if I have to see that again. I'm sure you'll be able to hear my commentary in your head anyway. I'll be the Jiminy Cricket Bitch on your shoulder.

Well, I suppose I can't expect girls my own age to have my same level of confidence, let alone girls a year younger than me. I'm probably spoiled from hanging out with you all the time. Haha, I do have a bitchy little voice in my head that sounds like you, actually... I mean, now that you mention...

Behavior is learned. There is still hope for them. I just can't be the one to do it. Do you really? Bae, that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

Yeah, but who's teaching them that nonsense? That's my question.

Haha, I don't think you oughta be quite so flattered about it. I mean, don't get me wrong. I can be a real bitch myself when I'm feeling ornery, but you raise it to an art!

Everyone. Fucking everyone. And they're learning it from each other, too.

The hell does ornery mean?

You really should see about calling them on it, Marty. They won't learn nothing from you complaining behind their backs instead of telling them to their face not to think like that.

It's like irritable? Angry. In a mood.

I did. Another girl is handling another thing. Anyway, let's move on from this. If you were other people, would you rather meet in the gardens or the pitch?

Oh, cool. Thank you.

I think the gardens are nicer, and less likely to be occupied if, say, someone else wants to skip the dance and practice Quidditch instead. It's cold as balls outside, but it's a notorious make out spot so people who want to skip the dance but not the flirting might enjoy the atmosphere.

I mean, I'm planning on hexing anyone who tries to make out in front of anyone else, but sure. We'll give them atmosphere. Thanks, Baeby.

There are loads of nooks and crannies, Marty. Don't stand in the way of True Teenage Loooooove. Haha, it's what I'm here for. Atmosphere is a key component of matchmaking.

It's just a different word for infatuation to me. And in a rare few cases, it does last, so who am I to say what is or isn't love? I want people to feel their feelings. Just be smart about it. Life ain't Romeo and Juliet, and they should not be your goals.

Maybe I'll make it the tagline for my matchmaking company. If I can figure out how to feasibly make money off of that in the future.

So, once you identify someone you want to match up with someone else, how do you convince them to go on a date?

The slips of paper they wrote their names on reappear as shackles on their wrists that only come off when they've gone on the date.

In situations where slips of paper are not involved?

Haha. Usually, they don't need much convincing. After all, there ain't no point in signing up to be matched if you aren't gonna actually give it a chance. Some people need some talking around to accepting my reasoning for pairing them with that lady or that fellow, but an open mind is a key part of it.

But when I'm matching people who ain't asked for my help or ain't signed up, then they usually don't know I'm matching them. I just make sure the keep running into the person I want them to match with, again and again, by toooootal coincidence, until they take a fucking hint.

You don't gotta do anything. But this is my life, so I'm willing to do the work of being insanely annoying unless you go on one little baby date to get me to go away.

Wait, who are you trying to match?
