Name: Rafael Ramirez

What do they look for in a person?:
Rafael is primarily drawn to people who seem passionate and independent. If he senses too much desperation to appeal to others, he's much less interested. So not giving a fuck about what anyone else thinks about you is extremely attractive, but you have to be effortless about it. He's attracted to passion... but not people who try too hard. And kindness... but you can't be too soft or he'll feel judged. Intelligent, poised and confident are also good. In fact, just skip confident and go straight for cocky. HE'S GOT SOME HIGH STANDARDS.

He wants to be with someone who doesn't hold him back, even though he does need people to hold him back sometimes. That job is better left to friends, though, because when looking for a partner, he doesn't enjoy the tension that comes from someone constantly telling him he's going too far, he's too much, he overreacted, etc. Sensitivity is an absolute deal killer. If you can't handle that he's got all those sharp edges, then it's not happening.

He highly values respect, which means that people who push his buttons and cross lines with him are out. People who fight and argue a lot, also out. Rafael hates his temper, and doesn't want to be in a relationship where he has to face that any more than is absolutely necessary. He's drawn to people who have a more level head than he does, and who are good at stopping conflicts before they begin. On the other hand, he also wants someone who will fight for him, because you'd better believe he'll fight for you.

What do they find romantic?:
Rafael's pretty traditional. He likes classic romantic gestures (flowers, dances, flirting, etc.), and he likes a lot of flattery to go in both directions. He wants to tell the person he's with how incredible they are, and be told the same in return.

Humor! Rafael is severe and controlled, but that means that he values someone who can joke around a little with him even more. He's definitely on the dry side, and appreciates people who are goofy as well as those who are a little more subtle. He couldn't be with someone who was unrelentingly serious long-term, because it would bring out Rafael's more severe side rather than his gentler one.

He also wants a serious interest in one another's passion. Not just a passing tolerance. It frustrated him endlessly that he couldn't play hockey for Quinn. Leo learning to dance with him has been fantastic, and Rafael's been trying to learn to fly on a broom and play Quidditch. He's highly committed and wants to be 110% invested in the people he dates.

Who do they have a crush on?: Leonardo Fiori

Noteworthy people Rafael could have fallen for if Leo hadn't happened, to varying levels of bad idea-ness: Quinn (the revenge), Ty, Casper, & Wes. Rafael had a serious crush on Wes as a freshman, but decided he didn't hate himself enough to pine for his straight friend for the next four years. He also kind of had a thing for Ravi for a second after Quinn dumped him, but ended up accusing Ravi of using him as a Ricardo stand-in (something that also kept him from ever doing much with Levi). Over the summer, he intended to ask Quinn to give him another chance, which didn't quite work out.

Are they seeing someone right now?: Rafael's been with Leo for three or so months and he's deeply content. He's thinking the word "love" but isn't saying it out loud just yet.

What are they like in a relationship?:
IT'S A CLICHE, but once you get past his hard outer shell, Rafael is very soft. He's got a big heart and cares a lot, which makes him a gentle and attentive boyfriend. Don't expect anything scandalous or kinky, he's very traditional and vanilla and wants a lot of classic romance. He's also very physically affectionate and likes a lot of PDA. Physical chemistry and closeness is important to him. Gotta be compatible.

On the other hand... Rafael's kind of jealous and possessive. He tries to keep quiet because he's ashamed of it, but he gets maaaaad when people flirt with the person he's interested in. He's still got beef with Jesse because he perceived him as waiting around to steal Quinn, and even after they broke up it took a while to be okay with the idea of her dating Ty. He also gets really cranky whenever Chris joke flirts with Leo. He knows he has nothing to fear and doesn't doubt Leo's loyalty at all, but he has an ugly knee jerk reaction to it and wants to yell at Chris for it. Every. Single. Time.

So, Rafael's exceptionally dedicated and has very clear, distinct lines about what's cheating and what's not. His standards are unforgiving, and he applies them to himself as well. Once you're in, you're in, and he's unfailingly loyal. He's also intensely protective and defensive, so your enemies are now his enemies and he's going to file away every time anyone ever disrespected you and hold it against them for years.

Anything else?: RICARDO IS AN OBSTACLE. Here's some Ric angst. As a kid, Ric was jealous of his "exceptional" little brother, who was a dance prodigy and so smart and just all around beloved. Ric thought that Rafael was the favorite child because ballet required so much money and attention. There was a lot of shitty sibling fighting, which left lasting scars on their relationship. And then... Rafael got his injury and had to give up dancing. And Ric was THRILLED, because it made Rafael "normal". As he grew older, Ric developed a lot of guilt over his reaction, feeling like it was on his shoulders for wishing bad things on his little brother and enjoying seeing him lose something that important to him. He dealt with this by becoming unfairly protective, in an effort to make up for what a bad big brother he'd been. He's not lying when he says he only wants to protect Rafael. If there's one thing Rafael and Ricardo have in common, it's a willingness to be the bad guy for what they consider a good cause. (Ric is still an asshole who's going about this all wrong, though.)

	LMFAO I'M DYING. Yes, the terrifying realization that Rafael and Ricardo are actually very similar. They have very different moral compasses (as in Ricardo possibly doesn't have one at all???) but they're both critical and judgemental and difficult to earn the respect of. WHAT CHARMING BOYS.
