We have received some complaints about the large amount of students who are showing public support of Harry and/or suspecting of sabotage, and so we would like to remind everybody that, in canon, the vast majority of people - including his own best friend - were convinced that he had indeed put his name in the Goblet or, at least, had someone else trick it for him.

If Harry had thought that matters would improve once everyone got used to the idea of him being champion, the following day showed him how mistaken he was. He could no longer avoid the rest of the school once he was back at lessons — and it was clear that the rest of the school, just like the Gryffindors, thought Harry had entered himself for the tournament. Unlike the Gryffindors, however, they did not seem impressed.
The Hufflepuffs, who were usually on excellent terms with the Gryffindors, had turned remarkably cold toward the whole lot of them. One Herbology lesson was enough to demonstrate this. It was plain that the Hufflepuffs felt that Harry had stolen their champion’s glory; a feeling exacerbated, perhaps, by the fact that Hufflepuff House very rarely got any glory, and that Cedric was one of the few who had ever given them any, having beaten Gryffindor once at Quidditch. Ernie Macmillan and Justin Finch-Fletchley, with whom Harry normally got on very well, did not talk to him even though they were repotting Bouncing Bulbs at the same tray — though they did laugh rather unpleasantly when one of the Bouncing Bulbs wriggled free from Harry’s grip and smacked him hard in the face. Ron wasn’t talking to Harry either. Hermione sat between them, making very forced conversation, but though both answered her normally, they avoided making eye contact with each other. Harry thought even Professor Sprout seemed distant with him — but then, she was Head of Hufflepuff House.

The next few days were some of Harry’s worst at Hogwarts. The closest he had ever come to feeling like this had been during those months, in his second year, when a large part of the school had suspected him of attacking his fellow students. But Ron had been on his side then. He thought he could have coped with the rest of the school’s behavior if he could just have had Ron back as a friend, but he wasn’t going to try and persuade Ron to talk to him if Ron didn’t want to. Nevertheless, it was lonely with dislike pouring in on him from all sides.
He could understand the Hufflepuffs’ attitude, even if he didn’t like it; they had their own champion to support. He expected nothing less than vicious insults from the Slytherins — he was highly unpopular there and always had been, because he had helped Gryffindor beat them so often, both at Quidditch and in the Inter-House Championship. But he had hoped the Ravenclaws might have found it in their hearts to support him as much as Cedric. He was wrong, however. Most Ravenclaws seemed to think that he had been desperate to earn himself a bit more fame by tricking the goblet into accepting his name.

This wave of Harry hatred will get so big that, during the first Hogsmeade visit, almost everyone will be seen sporting "Potter stinks" badges - one of the few exceptions outside of Gryffindor house being Cho (and, we can assume, Cedric's close circle of friends, though only because he'll very likely ask them not to wear them). And, of course, let's not forget that almost all Gryffindors are so excited to have their own champion that none of them will listen to Harry when he tries to tell them he had nothing to do with it.

It's okay to have a few voices of reason, but they need to be a very small minority. Even the teachers are picking sides, people, so let's stick to canon here!

Thanks for pointing that out! I mean, I thought it was a little unusual that non-Gryffindors were outright defending him, but I didn't think much of it, and I now realize that even though Leanne was annoyed by the rules being bent for Harry, she did state she believed he didn't do it. Basically, I figured she'd taken Kathryn's word for it because if even one Slytherin was willing to vouch for Harry being surprised, it had to be true. So in order to rectify that, I've just had her respond to Stella's theory that he was surprised because there were two champions, agreeing with said theory. I do want to be realistic and canon-compliant and still IC, but sometimes it's a hard balancing act, especially considering this is the first canon-compliant Trio era game I've ever been in, not counting one back in '06 that lasted a month.

Anyway, I think Leanne will wear a badge, though my other two won't. Audrey wants to wear one, but she thinks it's unprofessional as a prefect (though she's definitely not going to discourage others from wearing them). She's more anti-Potter than Leanne, but will be quieter about it. And Alexandra's annoyed that Hogwarts had two champions and the other schools only have one each, but she isn't exactly supporting Cedric either, so she won't be wearing a badge.

That totally works. And I understand, sometimes it's hard to keep things balanced - or, sometimes, to keep track of what's canon and what isn't, especially in a fandom such as this where the wiki is not the most reliable reference aid.

And I agree completely with your choices. I think it makes sense for the prefects to avoid wearing the badges (though exceptions would be completely understandable and IC). As for Alexandra, it's what I've been discussing with Heather above - they'll be understandably displeased, but their reaction is pretty much open. It makes sense that they won't wear the badges for the sole reason that their have their own champions to support, so while the "Potter stinks" feeling could be close to their hearts, supporting Cedric isn't.
