Jamie had gone home and flung his bag onto the couch. He didn’t know why he felt so off and upset about the whole kiss thing. Why should he? It wasn’t like there was anything going on between her and Sam, or him and Sam, it was just that her being around changed the way things were and he didn’t like change. His life - his whole being - was changeable enough without having his best friend stolen away from him by some beautiful girl.
And he’d waited outside the school gates for a little while after he’d walked off, but Sam hadn’t turned up. He hated that he felt wrong inside, jealous and twisted and completely unlike himself. His eyes flashed in different colours as he sat on the couch, long legs sprawled out in front of him. He tipped his head back and stared at the ceiling before he pushed his hands flat on the cushions and got to his feet.
He hated feeling wrong. He hated feeling confused - it happened on a daily basis anyway and he so did not need it with regards to Sam - and he didn’t know what to do about it. That was the only reason he got to his feet and figured maybe he could speak to his dad. Maybe. After all, maybe his dad could help. That’s what dads were supposed to do? He didn’t know if he’d be able to explain how he felt to his father to make him understand just why it felt like Jamie’s world had been tilted wrong. But it did, and it had and he didn’t understand fully why.
“Dad?” he called, knowing that his mother was at work - at least, he thought she was - and Macy wasn’t around. He had toed off his converse near the door. There was a hole in the heel of his sock, clearly he needed new ones. “You home?”
He moved towards the study and smiled a little when he caught sight of his father. He felt relieved, a feeling he hadn’t felt with regard to seeing his parents for a while. “Dad, can I talk to you?” he asked, closing his hand around the wooden doorframe. “Are you busy?”
