James had been in his own little shitty world lately. He didn't blame people for being pissed off at him, though really the only ones who seemed to be were Lukas, Katie, and Jessica's crazy ass sister. The anger wasn't really the problem. He'd burned bridges, and that was great and all until he'd realized he was stuck on an island with the occasional visit from Ellie and Lizzie (not bad visitors, by any stretch of the imagination).
He had stayed in his room for most of the weekend, and when he'd gone to school, he hadn't uttered a word. The professors hadn't even bothered to call on him, he was relieved to see, and he passed through Monday like a ghost, pretending not to notice Mao's slumped shoulders or the whispers whenever he passed by. Yeah, yeah. James Baker lost his shit. Must have been all the pot he was smoking.
By nine, James was numb, and he didn't see himself defrosting any time soon. He had climbed up to the roof to get some air, not wanting to suffocate in the room he was supposedly grounded to for a month just yet. He dragged a blanket up with him and put his head on the top of the slope to stare up at the sky. At least it was peaceful outside. He wished he could say as much about was going on inside that head of his.
