Who: Jaden and anyone
What: After school snack
When: Thursday after school
Where: Coffee Shop near the school

Jaden snaked throughout the day in between classes and his lunch may have been pretty decent, but he was starved now. He could have run home in a couple of seconds and gotten something, but he figured that he would take advantage of his current freedom and find somewhere nearby to eat instead. The first few places he saw were fast food or coffee places, which really didn't help him. He wasn't sure how many McDonald's burgers he's had in his life, but he figured it was more than he felt anyone should eat in their life, much less fourteen years of life. This being the case, he chose to go to one of the coffee shops. Coffee shops have cake and pie after all, and there are very few things that could be better than cake and pie.

He walked into the little coffee shop, a rather laid back shop. There was some acoustic music playing softly over the speakers, a few tables scattered about with a couple of comfy chairs and sofa areas around. He ordered one of the specialty drinks, being sure to get decaf, and then ordered three pieces of one of the pies that looked good. He took his things to a table off to the side and took a seat. One of his legs began the familiar bouncing that they usually did when he sat down. It was typically something he ignored, at least until someone speaks to him. He then becomes very self conscious about pretty much everything, especially his involuntary movements. Also, he had pie, so there was no reason to even bother thinking about that. The first piece was gone in an instant, probably a little too fast, but he doubted anyone was watching him eat.

Now this coffee shop would seem a little bit out of her way, but the further away from home she was the longer it would take for her to get home. It made perfect sense in he brain. It would be a few more hours where she could focus on things she wanted to focus on. Ever since the little stint at the Silverman's and he tattoo her parents hadn't really been as lenient as usual. They kept wanting to have "talks" with her about her future and shit. What the fuck is there problem, Corporate Lobotomy would get discovered and they get rich and famous but still be all about the fans and the music. They wouldn't get all caught up in the politics and other capitalist bullshit. She wasn't going to marry some nice Jewish boy and have nice Jewish babies and got to synagogue and be a good Jewish wife. She was agnostic and nothing was going to change that.

Eden had chose this shop for more that just it being far from her home without being too far. It was close to Wyrd Haven, the mutant school. That was the school Sascha used to go to, while she was glad that he got kicked out so they could meet she still wanted to get an in some how. Unlike most of society she though mutants were the shit. I mean how cool was it. Toby could grow plants, Presley could talk to dead people, and Sascha could make doubles of himself. Why couldn't her parents have been mutants, that would have been so cool. She knew they wouldn't be as lame as they were if they had powers. Eden had already decided that once she was old enough she was going to go buy one of those powers like whoa, which one she didn't know. All of them did have drawbacks of sort and she knew that learning how to control them took time and effort. I mean Toby had mentioned he woke up to a sapling underneath his pillow recently. She'd have to investigate further, but her eighteenth birthday was far off so she needed to focus on important things now, things like her music.

After getting a vente Hot Chocolate and the BLT wrap (yes, the B meant bacon, delicious made from a pig bacon) she walked past a boy probably a year or two younger than her eating a shit load of pie. Not being one with tact or subtlety Eden sat down across from him,

"Whoa, what is your power, hollow legs?" She chuckled and took a bite of her wrap.

Jaden's eyes widened with alarm at the question put toward him. Had he been careless? His mind began working trying to figure out what he may have done to possibly let on about his power. His ordering three pieces of pie? Was that too much at once? Three was barely a snack for him though, he had to order at least that, or he would have been up at the counter asking for another piece already. He glanced at his leg. Bounding up and down, unable to ever sit still. In fact, looking at everything, including the speed he probably ate the first piece of pie at, he was very careless. Very stupid.

He wanted to try and play it cool, but still being new at the whole social thing, that was probably not going to work as well as he might have hoped. Looking back on the scene later, he would come up with a hundred different ways to reply to her question all of which would have sound more convincing than, "What?"

Yes, that's right, What? The absolutely worst way to convince someone to not focus on the thing he wanted to avoid. Not only that, but a girl, probably one of the first that actually spoke to him since he began school. In his mind he was already thinking of how stupid he was for how he was managing the situation.

Eden paused in her chewing when he replied with a simple what. She stared at him for a moment then shrugged and resumed chewing. After swallowing she gave a little chuckle,

"Cool you jets dude, I just though that since you look to be around my age and Wyrd Haven is not that far that you must be a mutant...I happen to think their awesome so don't be worried that I'm gonna string you up or any of that bullshit." She took another large bit of her wrap and with the food still in her mouth,

"But if you ain't one, that's cool too. I'm Eden by the way." She thrust her hand forward across the table for a hand shake.

Jaden did his best to give a small smile, despite his nerves. He knew Wyrd Haven was around somewhere, but he didn't know it was near here. He took her extended hand and shook it, "I'm Jaden," he replied. He then thought for a moment. Was she being serious about all of that? She seemed like the kind of person who didn't have much of a reason to lie about stuff like that, but then again, Jaden had only been out being social for a very short while. In fact, most of the time he sat alone at lunch. He just didn't really didn't know much more about how to make friends than things he had seen on tv.

He hadn't noticed, but he was halfway through his last piece of pie. He must have been eating it absentmindedly, hopefully not too fast. Just because the girl seemed to be favorable of mutants, he wasn't sure how much he could trust that yet. "I was actually just in the area," he had finally chosen as his reply to being near Wyrd Haven. A very true statement, all be it a little deceiving.

"You really think mutants are awesome?" It was a statement that he hadn't heard before from someone who was not powered. It was also a statement that Jaden figured could be a good disarming statement if she were lying, so he chose to continue sidestepping the power question.

Eden was glad he gave her at least a little smile. She guessed it must be a little weird for a stranger to sort of call you on the fact of maybe being a mutant and it being a good thing. She had sort of known about Toby like forever so it never really ever dawned on her to hate or be scared of mutants. As a child she saw it as they could do magic. As she got older she knew it was because of some scientific bullshit but it still was pretty cool. It was definitely a unique thing.

She shrugged when he said he was just in the area, "Oh, okay then, I wasn't just wanted to avoid going home and facing my parents. They probably brought home another 'nice Jewish boy' for me to meet." She rolled her eyes, no matter what they thought she was not going back to the faith, if she ever got married she wanted it to be because she wanted to, she didn't want to have the dude's faith be a deciding factor.

"Of course I think they're awesome!" Eden said in disbelief, "I mean one of my best friends from when I was really little can make plants grow another one can talk to dead people. It's like magic. When I turn eighteen I so plan on buying one of my own. However, a lot of them I see having drawbacks so I'll have to think it over a lot. I don't want to get a power and end up destroying the world or some shit."

Jaden felt a bit calmer after hearing that she knew other people with powers, but he was still unsure about telling her about his power. He didn't like lying to people; however, the alternative was not too pleasant from what he understood. Some people have managed it alright, but his parents didn't want him to risk it. When he got old enough, maybe he would decide to come out of the mutant closet. "I know how you feel," he replied, "Not about the whole nice Jewish boy, but not wanting to go home to the parents."

"It's kind of nice to hear someone talk about mutants that way," he said, "I don't really see why so many people have a problem with them. WThey're just people after all." He caught himself before the word came out, so hopefully she wouldn't notice he almost said 'we're'. Even if she did, the way she talked, she probably won't care much. At least he hoped.

Eden chuckled at his agreeing with her about not wanting to go home to the parents. She took another bite of her wrap,

"Yeah, it isn't really the norm anymore for parents try to play matchmaker for their kids. And I don't just mean dating," she swallowed, "I mean like they're trying to find me a proper future husband." She tore a smaller piece of the tortilla wrapping and popped in in her mouth, "So what's the beef you got with your parents?"

She smiled when he said it was nice to hear her talk about mutants that way. "True, also with a lot of them it wasn't a choice, it's just genetics. I mean one of my friends was actually one of the last gen 1 kids and like they didn't have any choice, they weren't even born when it happened. So it wasn't like a choice like some others. I think the people who bought powers shouldn't complain...they choice to buy one ya know? I mean I'm not going to complain when I buy one, I'm choosing that life for myself." And she did notice how he almost slipped and said we're but if he was fine being in the mutant closet for now that was fine by her. She wouldn't push it...which isn't normal for her so for that Jaden should be thankful.

Despite him feeling a bit more relaxed with Eden, Jaden's legs were still moving like usual. His body just never wanted to stay still, especially when he was talking to someone. He thought about getting something more to eat, but he wasn't sure if Eden would think that was weird. He half thought she wouldn't care, but he was still a bit nervous about it.

"Well, on the bright side, they aren't trying to trade you for a bunch of cows, right?" he joked, thinking about some things he heard about Indian marriage proposals. "My parents are a bit on the overprotective side," he told her, "This is actually my first year at an actual school." It felt good to actually talk to someone about that, even if he had only just met her, "I was home schooled till now, but I finally convinced them to give me a chance."

"So, what power would you like to have if you could choose any of them?" he asked. It was nice to actually talk to someone who wanted a power. Personally, with the exception of the fact that his body never wanted to stop moving, he loved having his power. He only wished he didn't have to hide it so much.

Eden glanced at his legs that were bouncing and thought one thing, 'ADD probably.' Well it was either that or he really wanted to get away from her and she didn't think that was the case.

She had to cover her mouth to prevent the bite of her BLT to be spit out in his face. She was pretty sure he wouldn't like that. But she chuckled and then swallowed, "Yeah I guess it's good that my parents' aren't so orthodox they're doing the whole dowry thing." She tilted her head when he said his parents were on the overprotective side and the he continued on, "That's good, school is more for just learning the social side is also really important I hear. What school?" Part of her was still betting on Wyrd Haven but he could be like Toby and Sascha and not go to the mutant school.

That was the question wasn't it...what power. She sighed and pursed her lip in thought. Her eyes were focused above, "Well...I know it mostly would depend on what they have at the moment but if I could choose any of them...I don't know...I know all of them sort of have drawbacks. Like first I was thinking like teleportation, but I'd be too old to go to Wyrd Haven so I'd have to learn how to control it on my own. That could end up really back like I'd end up in a wall or something. Then I was thinking like flight or enhanced memory, but then again it's the learning thing and the memory thing I think would cause headaches. Also watching movies again or listening to music probably wouldn't be as enjoyable because you will have remembered it perfectly." She paused as he eyes went down and she started making a circle with her fingertip, "My last choice was speed you know, being able to do things really quick, get places fast but then I think control obv and then also with all the calories I'd be burning I'd have to eat a shitload of fo..." Eden trailed off and her eyes slowly rose to meet his. A grin came to her face,

"That's it isn't it?" She lowered her voice to a whisper, "You have super speed. I'm right aren't I...you can tell me...I won't tell honest."

Jaden's heart skipped a beat when she figured out his power. He wanted to say no, but there was nothing he could think of to counter her dead on guess. He looked around to make sure that no one was paying the two of them any mind. When he was sure no one was looking he gave her a sheepish nod. Somewhere in his mind he was happy, for now he would be able to go get some more food without worrying about what Eden would think. "You were right with your first guess," he admitted, "Sorry." He didn't like lying to people, but he knew that until he could get out from under his parents' roof, he had to follow their rules for the most part.

With Eden figuring out what he was able to do, along with the side effect of his power, he took the opportunity to excuse himself and get a few pieces of different types of cake. When he returned, he offered one of the pieces to the girl. Though he was still hungry, one of the main reasons he got the food so he could have something to distract him. He was relieved, yes, but she was the first person outside his family and the school that discovered he had powers. She even guessed what his power was. She seemed like she would be cool about the situation, but still, his body felt like it was pumping blood faster than usual.
