Who: Sasha and Laney
What: Doing what she does best
Where: New York 711
When: Evening
The magazine was glossy and glowed in her hands even under the dim light of the convenience store. Sasha sighed. It had been a few months since she had posed for Playboy. It was surprising that some stores still carried the issue with her photos inside. Then again, this wasn't exactly the best part of town. Maybe they got shipments in after all the other big shot stores got theirs. Sasha didn't doubt it. It was always the poor, less fortunate people who suffered. She had learned that long ago, along with the ability to protect herself and her family. Sometimes things had to be stolen.
Sasha rolled up the magazine and slipped it inside her jacket in one swift motion. There were few people in the 711, and she made sure the camera wasn't getting her face or her movements. A little magnetic distortion never hurt a situation like this. She had done this more times than she could count, with candy bars, packs of gum, a quart of milk, condoms. Whatever it was they needed to survive. Eventually, the stealing became an addiction. Sometimes she needed it to survive. Sometimes she needed it in order to feel alive. It was like a drug. The real thrill behind stealing isn't in what is stolen. It's in not getting caught.
She pushed her way through the aisles and out the front door, tossing up her hoody and looking all around out of the corners of her eyes. She hadn't counted on anything being directly in front of her though. So when she ran right into someone, her instincts kicked in. She shot her hands out in front of her, ready to use whatever magnetic object they had on them to her advantage. Yet the only thing worse than getting caught stealing your own naked pictures in a magazine was getting caught by someone you knew.
