Sasha jerked her arm back the instant Laney reached forward to touch her. Her defenses weren't up anymore. But she was still too on edge to let anyone touch her. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the change in light outside the store. They took in the image of Laney standing in front of her silhouetted by the light of the store and holding the hand of a little girl. She assumed this was her daughter. "Yeah. Fine."
Her hands quickly went to her chest, where she felt around to make sure she still had the glossy underneath her jacket. This whole thing would have been for nothing if she lost that stupid magazine. She could still get another one, but probably it wouldn't feel as good as successfully pulling this one out of the store. It was a matter of pride. "What are you doing here?" she asked Laney, looking her up and down.
