Sarah was not feeling well. She couldn't even remember the last time she had felt this nervous, and she was pretty sure it had to do with sports or, you know, bungee jumping, not having a sit down dinner with her boyfriend's parents.
Now, sure, nerves when you were meeting the parents were perfectly normal, but this was above and beyond and Sarah would argue it wasn't unreasonably so. People kept telling her that Ariella Silverman was going to hate her and everything that she stood for. Even Toby admitted that it was going to be rough. She had hid from his mother in a dressing room because they were both terrified of her non-Jewish status being discovered. He had told her she was in charge of the band's fashion, for heaven's sake!
And what was it Jack had said that day? Oh yeah- "Make a happy place and go there when you meet her. Smile and take it. You know, all those stupid fucking cliche's about not saying anything if there's nothing nice to say. Do that." All cursing and ridiculousness aside, Sarah had the feeling he wasn't exaggerating, and she had spent the majority of the day in a borderline panicked state. She didn't know what she was doing or what she should be wearing or how she was going to handle it if blatant dislike was shoved in her face.
The truth was, most people liked Sarah. She was sweet and polite and honest, and Angelina Freakin' Jolie, this was new territory for her, okay?!
She had ended up in one of her sundresses with a sweater over her shoulders that she had been nervously tugging on for the past several minutes that she had been standing on his front porch, frozen. Her throat felt like it was starting to close up and her hands were getting sweaty and-
Sarah's hand clutched at her necklace as she sucked in a deep breath, eyes sliding closed to calm herself down. She muttered a soft prayer (a little ironic, really), and forced herself to stand up straight and knock on the door.
She only hoped Toby was the one to answer the door. She was sure her deer-in-the-headlights look wasn't the best first impression.
