Who: Alice, Boo and a run in with Caleb
What: Bar date! Classy >_>
When: Wednesday night
Rating: Medium or high for language and or violence possibly?
Status: Incomplete

So maybe it was a last minute thing, but Boo was bored, and it had been a while since he'd seen Alice. A while was really only about two weeks or so, but he really was starting to like having her around, so he was disappointed that their schedules clashed a little. Yeah, that's right. Disappointed. Because he liked her. A lot. Was that so weird?

Anyway, his intention was to take her to a baseball game that evening, but since he hadn't exactly planned ahead, and all the good seats were taken, they'd settled for the next best thing: an evening at a crowded sports bar near Yankee stadium. It wasn't romantic or anything, but it was fun, and frankly, before he had to ultimately introduce her to his siblings, he wanted to know if she could hang. It was kind of important.

So there they were, a couple beers and several innings in. And not really watching the game, because it was somewhat difficult to see with the crowd in the way. The place was packed, but Boo had managed to get Alice a seat at the bar. Unfortunately, he'd given his up to a middle aged woman in a jersey with flaking face paint and a loud laugh. He was standing in between them and while he was a little squished, he was having a pretty good time.

He was in the middle of ordering another round when it dawned on him, "You know," Boo had to project a little over that lady's cackle, "I think this is the first time I've been out without Scout or Gem in a year." It was a strange fact to admit, but it had just struck him, and he felt the need to share. "It's nice," he added.

Alice, quite frankly, had no idea what was going on with the baseball game at the moment. In fact, she hadn't known since about the time they'd arrived. Perhaps half the blame could be placed on the fact that there was a giant crowd that made it impossible to see. The other half undoubtedly was the result of having something much, much more attractive to look at right in front of her face.

"What?" she asked over the obnoxious lady's laugh. "You can't be serious!" She knew that he had said he was close to his siblings, but so was she, and it was pretty rare that you caught her drinking with them. "No way. You're too popular!"

Boo shook his head, "Nope, dead serious." He laughed at the notion of being too popular. Popular was a term he associated with high school jocks and cheelrleaders. He supposed, if that was the case, he fell into that category at one time, but not really anymore.

No, he'd actually cut a lot of people out when he stopped fighting, either out of necessity (because they brought out the worst in him) or on accident (simply because they didn't run with the same crowd), "I've been out alone, a few times I guess." He replied, scratching his chin, and had probsbly met someone along the way, but it was different than actually making plans and going out with someone on purpose, "But I think you win the prize for getting me out of the house and not being related to me. It's a prestigious award." He grinned cheekily.

Being that Boo was outrageously good-looking (though perhaps she could understand how some people might have been intimidated by him), Alice still found it hard to believe that he hadn't gone out with a date in a while. Then again, he hadn't really discussed his status when leaving, had he?

"Prestigious award, huh?" she asked, grinning broadly as she leaned forward toward him slightly. "What's my prize?"

Well, hewasn't about to tslk about the women he may or may not have (but really may have) left with in front of the woman he was sitting with atthatvery moment. It certainly wasn't good manners.

He leaned in toward her as well, keeping a finger width of distance between them, "Very prestigious." He nodded, grinning back, "What would you like it to be?"

Alice could feel her cheeks warming as he leaned in close. Sometimes she felt like a ridiculous teenager with a school girl crush when he looked at her like that. "Oh, I don't know. Something... nice." Her gaze dropped to his lips of its own accord.

Something nice, huh? Boo watched her eyes drop to his mouth and his grin broadened. He could take a hint. She was a little less shy than before when they'd first met and he was starting to like it. He closed the small, teasing gap between them witha soft kiss.

Caleb was bored...really bored. Sure finding out his radius had been extended to forty blocks from his past twenty, but there wasn't anything more interesting in those forty blocks than he had in his twenty. So he was stuck just wandering around trying to find some place to hang out.

Apparently a game was happening tonight so most people were at the stadium, at home or...at a sports bar...of course. He saw the name of one of them a few paces in front of him. Sure he wasn't a huge sports fan but they had beer and people there...so it would sate his boredom for a time. Maybe he might meet a cute girl there.

It was packed in there however it must have been his big brother senses that made his eyes land on his baby sister...with a guy. Caleb narrowed his eyes and surveyed the two of them, not choosing to bust in without a clear idea of what kind of guy this was. She had mentioned having a 'him' friend and they looked platonic enough. Yeah he was perfectly inn...o....Oh Hell NO!

The minute that scumbag put his lips on his baby sister all thoughts of this guy being innocent flew out the window. Forcing his way through the crowd he made his way over. He put a hand forcefully on Boo's shoulder and ripped him away from Alice. He then put himself between the two of them,

"Take your hands off my baby sister." He had to hold back slugging the guy. He knew his extension could be taken back if he caused the guy any physical harm. So he thought it was best their leave. Taking Alice's wrist in his hand he made a move to start to the door, "Let's go Alice."

Alice was perfectly content to enjoy what was not an over kill on kissing by any means when she suddenly a hand close around her wrist. What?

She broke her lips away from Boo's and, almost as a reflex, yanked her arm back away from the intruder. "Get off!" When she finally realized who had taken a hold of her and that it wasn't, in fact, a drunken idiot but instead her brother who looked entirely sober, but also entirely pissed off.

Shit.

"Caleb?!" she gaped, eyes wide. She had nearly forgotten how protective her ridiculous older brother could be, and now it was being shoved in her face... violently. "What are you doing?!"

Boo Collins, cage fighter flinched, somewhere in the back of Boo Collins, yoga teacher's mind. And cracked his knuckes, and flexed and prepared to fight.

But that wasn't who he was anymore. Or at least, it wasn't who he was trying to be. Not in this over crowded bar. Not in front of Alice. Even so. He jerked away from the hand on his shoulder and turned to face this douchebag. "Are you fucking nuts?" Okay, so maybe his chakras were a little off, "She's a grown woman, this isn't the middle ages. Let her go."

He took a deep breath and put out his hand, "Look, we haven't met yet, so, I guess I can understand you being upset." Not really, he wouldn't do this to his sister and they were twins, damnit! "I'm Bradley Collins, and I've been seeing your sister, can we be adults here?"

Caleb head jerked back slightly when his sister yanked her arm away from him. What was her deal? It then sort of hit him when she said his name shocked. He took her wrist again and to her question,

"We are leaving," he started pulling her towards the door. He faintly picked up on the sound of knuckles cracking. He really didn't want to get into a fight with this guy...because he knew he'd win and he really didn't want to get restrained of put under house arrest for beating up a civilian. Even though he really wanted to hit the guy for even thinking he had the right to kiss Alice. He didn't know why but this guy just rubbed him the wrong way...sure most guys interested in his sister rubbed him the wrong way, but this guy bugged him even more. Probably because he was a big guy who was currently cracking his knuckles as if prepping for a fight. Also once he mentioned his name he didn't recognize his name so that meant another quality he didn't like...he was a norm.

Once the asshole spoke to him not releasing Alice's wrist he turned back to him once again getting between his sister and him. "No, I'm not nuts and sure I know she's a grown woman but she and I are leaving now. I highly suggest you don't try to stop us."

Caleb looked out the extended hand like it was a bug...filthy norm. He crossed his arms, "Caleb West, Alice's older brother, I'm an FBI Agent...I can carry a gun...and I'm a master at mixed martial arts. I know several ways how to kill a man...just thought you should know."

"You've been seeing my sister...well there you've seen her now you're not. Now if you excuse me I need to talk to my sister alone."

Alice heard it, too, the sound of knuckles cracking, and as she spared a glance over her shoulder at Bradley, she was momentarily distracted by the fact that it was kind of hot that he seemed willing to fight for her.

Caleb's hand returned to her arm and snapped her right out of that reverie. Damn.

"Caleb, you're being an ass," she hissed, shooting him a glare (a rarity for someone like Alice- and it didn't seem right on her features).

She turned her focus back to Boo and sighed. "Give me one minute. I'll be back, I promise." She offered him a strained smile and shifted forward to press a defiant kiss to his cheek.

Uuugh. A pissing match. Boo had invented this. He resisted the urge to facepalm. Instead he crossed his arms and shook his head, and simply chose to ignore the list of things Caleb had attempted to intimidate him with and thefact that he'd refused his handshake. What the fuck was that? "Seriously? Look, I've gotta tell you, this is embarrassing. I have a twin sister and I have never once put her through something like this. This is a joke right?" He wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, he really did. He did not want to have to punch Alice's brother.

Clearly, Alice was as upset as he was, though, so when Caleb started yanking her away, he followed, "Anything you have to say can be said in front of me, or you can wait until later, but we're on a date, and she's not leaving."

The twin sister comment caught Caleb off guard. For a moment the thought managed to make a female version of the man in front of him appear in his mind...man...that was one unattractive woman. But that was no matter, he was trying so hard not to hit this guy, but he was grating on his last nerve. "This is not a joke and I have my reasons for reacting this way. I don't expect you to understand." 'You filthy norm,' he added mentally. He didn't want to announce that he and Alice were mutants to a crowded room with who knows how many norms...or possible violent anti-mutant activists.

His face didn't change when Alice called him an ass. If wanting to prevent her getting attached to another norm who then she'd wanting to tell him the truth and have her heart shattered again....then fine...he was an ass. In the end she'd appreciate what he was trying to do...if he just managed to plead his argument to her. If that ass just gave them a moment to talk alone...really?

"This can't wait and if you don't want to have an up close and personal meeting with my fist you'll back off."

"Caleb!" Alice groaned. "You're an FBI agent. If you assault someone in a public place, you're done, and you know it. So just calm down."

This had gotten entirely out of hand. She was practically inhaling the testosterone, and people were staring, including a vary wary looking bartender who appeared to be in no mood to deal with a fight this early in the evening.

"Bradley," she breathed, trying to keep her calm as neither of the men in this situation seemed capable. Her hand fell to the center of his chest. "Give me a minute. We'll stand right there. You can see us. It will be fine. He's my brother." She shot him a look that she hoped conveyed this was not up for debate (Alice was not a particularly menacing person, so it may not have quite come across as planned).

"And you." Her attention shifted to Caleb. "We are talking. Briefly. And then I'm finishing my date, and you're going home!"

If public assault was going to cost Caleb his job, it was going to cost Boo everything. His job, his home, his cat, his freedom. Everything he'd been working so hard to keep. Scout might look down on his lifestyle change and semi-responsible choices, but the truth was, hewas no criminal, and didn't want to go to jail. He might have been more reckless as a teenager, buthe'd changed since then. Or at least he had tried. And it seemed to be working. He hadn't time to respond to Caleb when Alice set her hand on his chest. Anything nasty that he'd been about to say flew out of his mind. He looked down at her face and what was probably supposed to be a serious expression, and sighed heavily.

"Okay." He nodded, "If you don't come back, I'm coming after you, though." He managed a small smile, before shooting Caleb a very fake grin and a wave, "Nice meeting you. I guess I'll have to meet your fist another time."

And for the record, his twin sister was abso-fucking-lutely adorable.

Caleb knew that if he got in a fight it would make them tighten the leash a bit more...not so much to lose his job...Adrian might fight for him. Or at least his wife might...she'd been getting reports from the therapist he was required to see on a weekly basis...anger issues. However, if they couldn't advocate him he would lose his job and he'd land his ass back in jail. Working with GUARDIAN was the only reason he was out...he had to be good. His sister was right, but all he was doing was trying to protect her...that's all he had ever tried to do ever since she was born. She was too trusting...to sweet for her own good.

Bradley...his name was Bradley...had he not have been so pissed off he might have laughed. Bradley was sort of a punk ass name for a guy looking like him. Bradley was the kind of name one of those kids he used to shove in he lockers would have. But that was neither here nor there. He didn't reply to his goodbye he just shot him a glare and with a hand on the small of Alice's back he moved her over to a less crowded part of the bar.

He turned to face her and in a hushed whisper, "Alice are you crazy or something?"

Alice gave one last long look at Boo, before she was dragged off to the other side of the bar. She wondered how patient a man had to be to put up with a girl who had an insanely overprotective older brother. Most men, she had a feeling, would be running for the hills, and although Boo was still waiting around for her to finish talking to him, there was a fear that formed a tight ball in her stomach that had her positive he was going to be making a break for it.

"Me? I'm the crazy one?!" she gaped, hands finding her hips. "I was in the middle of a date, and you stormed in, tried to drag me off, insulted my date for no reason, and then threatened to punch him in the face! What's the matter with you?! I'm 26 years old, Caleb! I'm allowed to freaking date!"

"Of course you're allowed to date Al, just not guys like him!" Caleb said in a harsh whisper. He really wanted to yell and scream but not in front of all those people, especially with what he was going to say next, "A norm Alice, another fucking norm. Do you not remember what happened last time...do you? Have you told him yet, told him your big secret. No...am I right, no you haven't. All I'm trying to do is prevent history from repeating itself. I don't want you to have to uproot your life again because some fucking norm douchebag. I just want to protect you Al, that's all I've tried to do." His voice became more gentle as he went on. Caleb put his hands on her shoulders and pulled her into a hug, even though he knew she probably didn't want to be hugged by him right now,

"You're a great girl Alice, but you're too nice for your own good sometimes, you try to see the best in people and that causes some people to take advantage of that...just...I wish you could find some nice guy from the island....one who is like us, who wouldn't judge you, who would be in the same boat. I'm sorry again, I just...I want you to be safe."

"Jesus, Caleb, this is exactly the kind of thinking that got you into trouble with-" Her voice dropped considerably as she realized she was starting to get loud again. "With that damned-" Oh yeah, she just cursed. "Hellfire. This ridiculous prejudice because of what one jerk did to me. One."

A frustrated hand ran through her hair. "You talk so much about how they judge us, and look at you. You've known him for two seconds and written him off! For what? Because he's different than us?"

"I already told you I was wrong for joining those lunatics," and yes he was surprised that sweet little Alice cursed him but whatever, "and fine okay I'm anti-norm okay. I only trust like one...one norm. If I had my choice I wouldn't trust him with my secret or my back, but he's my partner so I'm kind of forced to." He glanced back over at...Bradley. At times like this he wished he was Adrian's wife...she could probably read him...find out if he'd be okay with mutants...or "special" people as she called them.

"Do you even know his views on our kind...at least find that out...before you tell him, and if it's bad promise me you'll get out...cut ties be done with it. Just find that out for me before you get too attached. Just do that for me Al, please. Prove me wrong, kay? Show me that all norms aren't all anti-mutant bigots."

Caleb nodded at her, he knew that. After that first douche he knew she was very cautious about who she trusted enough to tell. At her mentioning Abby he shifted uncomfortably. He had already ran into her...giant pregnant married her. "And you will find out how he feels about mutants, right...might give you a big hint on his reaction."

He glanced back over at Bradley then back to Alice and gave a simple, "Moo." He hoped he could get her to crack at least a little smile at that, "Okay fine, go back to your date, I'll go..." but he wasn't going to apologize, "but if he tries anything that you don't want...let me know...love you Al." He gave her a kiss on her forehead before sending Bradley a glare then giving the signal that said, 'I'm watching you.' After that he turned and left the bar...deciding that he could just watch the game from home/

He did, of course, manage to make her smile, despite her best efforts otherwise, and she gave him a small nudge to assure him she was still cranky with him regardless.

She rolled her eyes at his parting words, but she did offer up a 'love you, too' as she watched him go.

Jeez, now she just had to make her way back to Bradley and apologize profusely. ...She should have forced Caleb to do that. Damn. Why did she always think of these genius ideas after the fact?

Slowly, dragging her feet a bit, she made her way back over to where Bradley was waiting, hands shoved nervously into the too small pockets of her jeans. "...Hi," she greeted weakly, unsure of where to begin.

Boo had been trying not to be too curious, and had keptone eye on the game and one on Alice, just in case her crazy brother decided to kidnap her. He'd kep't Alice's barstool warm and occupied so someone didn't snatch it up in her absence.
