Some people might not enjoy working with the higher ups in the world. They had a tendency to be a little high-maintenance, expect to be treated differently, the works, but hell if they didn't pay well. It was easy enough for someone like Cam to turn on the charm and get an icy senator to warm up to him, which was especially helpful for some of the more paranoid types- the types who seemed to be his most frequent customers.

It was a bit tiring, though, putting on that face for extended periods of time, even more so when he was trying to cloak someone's secret affair or hide their important documents or belongings. After a tiring evening with an especially needy senator, Camden needed a serious kick the next morning to get himself up and running, so he'd headed to one of his favorite coffee shops in the area for some much-needed caffeine.

He pulled out the latest paper, chuckling at a photo of one of his latest clients smiling proudly with his wife at his side at a speech. Why was it that the ones who pushed the hardest for family values had the kinkiest lives behind the scenes?

Too long, eh? Well, that was always a good sign considering that they had sort of made out and run with their last adventure. Camden's brain immediately jumped to formulating a repeat with a happier ending, but he quickly reeled that thought process back in and focused on the situation at hand.

"Not at all," he assured him, easing into the chair across from him. "Not in a rush to head back to New York. I have the day off." Was he dropping subtle hints? Maybe, but he liked it when someone had to try and read into things. Besides, if things went awry, he could always plead ignorance.

Jimmy beamed when Cam took a seat across from him. He probably shouldn't have been so noticeably happy, do he tried to tone if down and internalize his happiness like he did almost all of his other emotions. "You casually decided to spend your day off down in DC?" Jimmy was clearly avoiding the fact that Camden had said he had a day off but didn't specify what he was doing with his time today.

Camden quirked a brow at the question. "I had business here over the weekend, ended late last night," he answered easily, knowing Jimmy would understand all too well the undertones of the sort of 'business' he was doing. Jimmy was squeaky clean compared to the usual, though (minus their recent indiscretion, of course).

"What about you? Busy day ahead?"

Jimmy's smile and pleasant demeanor faded slightly when Camden said he was here on business last night. He could only assume that he had been cloaking someone last night and he was generally curious to know who it was that needed his service. Then again, Jimmy also knew that it wasn't any of his business asking those kinds of questions and that it was distasteful to press it any further.

"Just catching up on the latest slandering of my name," Jimmy said as he nodded towards the iPad on the coffee table between them. "Gotta love the media." Cue the eye roll.

"Well, at least you're in the media," Camden pointed out. "People know who you are and what you stand for. Most people don't know who any of their representatives are." Camden would be guilty of it, too, if he hadn't worked for a number of them and been fed a steady stream of congress gossip.

"So, what are you guilty of this time?" he asked, smirking. "Anything exciting?"

Jimmy shook his head disapprovingly. "That's not always a good thing. And they don't know what I stand for because everyone keeps twisting my words. Per usual." One would think that Jimmy would be used to the game of politics by now, having been involved in them for well over fifteen years now. But he wasn't, and they were still a huge thorn in his side. Then again, it was his favorite thing.

His cheeks turned a light shade of pink when Cam asked what he was accused of doing this time. It would have been horribly ironic if he was accused of having an affair and Cam was asking about it, since he had done stuff with the young man. But alas, that wasn't today's issue. "They're trying to accuse me of being associated with Hellfire. Lovely, no?" His tone showed how he wasn't the slightest bit amused with the situation.

Jimmy was blushing. That made Camden's lips curl up as he realized Jimmy had clearly not forgotten their latest rendezvous. "Hellfire? You?" He didn't want to be offensive, but anyone who had ever met the guy would find the notion laughable. Camden certainly did.

"Well, at least they've moved on from the traditional having an affair route," he drawled, meeting Jimmy's eyes with a cheeky smile. "They've gotten a little more creative."

"My same exact reaction. But my opponents would jump at the chance to associate me with them. They know that the public would never vote someone in if they thought they were associated with Hellfire, thus giving them the win." He didn't mention that he had actually done a few favors for Hellfire. They were irrelevant and out of the goodness of his heart - not because he believed in their cause.

Jimmy pursed his lips and looked away from Camden momentarily, rubbing the back of his neck like someone who was guilty. "Yeah," he heaved out something that sounded like a sigh mixed with a laugh. "They've got many other politicians they can rightly pull that card on."

"Well, sure, but they have zero proof. You could claim they were terrorists, too, with the amount of evidence they've got." Camden had done his fair share of deeds for Hellfire himself. It wasn't because he supported the cause- Camden didn't support many causes, really- but they'd needed his services, and he always needed the money. Work was work. He didn't ask questions; he just did what he was told. His experiences with the organization made the notion of Jimmy's involvement that much more laughable.

That sheepish look was fuel to Camden's fire, and his grin widened as he peered over at the older man. "You present a valid point. I bet nobody would even bother going down that road with their whole terrorist plot they've developed."

"Very true. But we're mutants. People associate mutants with Hellfire, with the reputation they've given us." He paused to take a sip from his cup of coffee. "It's like after 9/11. Everyone thought that Muslims and middle eastern people were all dangerous, when in fact it was only a very small percentage that were actually dangerous." It was just how the world worked under the influence of the media these days.

"Let's hope the don't. People won't be able to keep up with all of the lies." Jimmy tried to end that conversation before it started. He didn't want to play with fire and that's what Camden was to him.

Camden chuckled to himself, letting his chin rest lazily in his hand as he propped himself up on an elbow. "I'm sure they'll contain themselves for a while. People don't like things to be too complicated." Which was an interesting thing to say as, though his face gave nothing away, Camden's foot sneakily shifted under the table to slide along Jimmy's calf. "One scandal at a time, you know."

He chuckled when Cam suggested that people didn't like things to be too complicated. "Complicated lives make for more drama. Drama makes lives more interesting. Or at least more interesting to read about in the tabloids." Jimmy didn't like to think that he had a very complicated life, just a complicated political opinion. And then Camden was proving him wrong, playing footsies.

Jimmy awkwardly pursed his lips and let one of those 'oh this is way too awkward' chuckles out. He scratched his eyebrow and looked away. "I prefer no scandals," he insisted. Then again, Jimmy hadn't exactly done anything to stop Camden.

Priceless.

Camden felt his smile widening, and he couldn't help but slip off his loafer and let his toes slide under the bottom hem of his pants. "No scandals at all?" he asked, head tilting slightly. "You've got to keep it a little interesting!"

Jimmy was starting to grow frustrated with Camden. He wanted to encourage him but they were in public and he was flirting with him. What if someone saw him? What if pictures were taken? He coughed and shifted in his seat, crossing the leg that Camden was playing with. "No. I keep it interesting enough with my spouse, thank you very much." Jimmy looked around nervously a little. Everyone in the shop looked innocent enough, so he turned his attention back to Camden.

Oh, testy.

Cam could take a hint, and although he took his time doing it, he withdrew his foot and replaced it in his shoe. "I'm glad to hear that, Jimmy," he answered, easing back in his chair. "Maybe you two should get away for a while. I know how fond you are of Hawaii."

Was he having too much fun with this? Yes, yes he was.

Jimmy eased back into his chair when Camden put his foot back in his shoe like a good boy. He laughed a little when Cam brought up Hawaii. "Hah! You're a funny man." He didn't say anything more. He was sure that his spouse would love a trip to Hawaii as well but Jimmy wasn't going to be taking them there any time soon. It'd make it all the harder for Jimmy to keep their adventure a secret.

"Don't you have a significant other?" Yes, turn the table and focus the spotlight somewhere else. That usually worked, right?

Camden wasn't entirely used to talking about himself, and he was much more comfortable prodding into other people's minds than letting them into his. After all, everyone else always loved to talk about themselves (especially women).

"No," he replied, shrugging. "I find it difficult with all my traveling around for work. It takes a very patient person." Not to mention all the secrecy that went along with the job. People always wanted to know, but Camden had his rules.

"Perhaps finding yourself a teleporter to hit on would be a good idea," Jimmy smirked and took another sip of his coffee. "Sadly, I'm a healer among other things. But not a teleporter. Guess you'll have to look elsewhere." He sounded like he had just won an argument and made his closing point, like the book on the two of them had just closed.

"I'm not really the kind of guy who likes people to show up without warning," he replied with a soft chuckle. "A little surprise now and then is nice." He eyed Jimmy as he rose up to his feet and slid on his sunglasses. "You were a nice surprise, Congressman Monroe. For the record."

A surprised look rolled over Jimmy's face. He didn't like people to show up without warning, and yet he was guilty of being here, there, and everywhere. It seemed rather ridiculous to him but he didn't say anything. He didn't say anything to Camden's other comments either. Instead, he just shook his head disapprovingly, but smiling. "It was nice seeing you, Camden." He picked his iPad back up and took another sip of coffee. "Don't be a stranger." And with that, Jimmy turned his full attention back to the articles slandering his good name.
