Who: Ari & Eden, maybe Jack, Toby, and Scott too?
What: Shabbos dinner and a semi-shidduch date!
Where: The Silvermans
When: Friday night, 8pm
Status: Incomplete

Everything was perfect and set. The table already had the candles lit on it; the challah was covered on the table and the wine was waiting for everyone to say kiddush; Ayelet had set out the best dishes and silverware. Everyone was just coming back from shul, including her own kids and husband who she'd coerced into going to minyan this week.

It may be Shabbos but there was something different about this one. Toby may only be 16 but Ariella was already hoping to set him up with a young lady. She was in no rush to have a wedding or become a grandmother, but in their community, it wasn't uncommon for someone Toby's age to be at least looking at girls who could make a lovely wife and keep a kosher home. Plus, it didn't help that all of Ari's neices and nephews and her friends' kids in the community were getting married and having kids of their own already. She knew Toby wasn't really into that whole scene but Ari still had high hopes that he'd grow to like it eventually.

In no time there was a knock at the door and Eli ran ahead of Ari to answer it. "It must be the Adlers," she said excitedly as Eliyahu pulled open the door to let them in. Ari stood behind him and smiled from ear to ear. "Gut Shabbos!"

As Ari and Rachel made their way into the dining room, they stopped and watched Toby take Eden aside. Their heads turned simultaneously towards one another and they smiled like two goofy little children. While the two kids talked, Ari set the dishes she had full of food onto the hot plates that adorned the table and took the ones that Rachel had as well to down in their proper spots.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Rachel said in a whisper to Ari. She shrugged her shoulders and smiled, "Hopefully Eden's saying that she wants to come back to Yeshiva in the fall." The two of them beamed and took their seats at the table. Each of the men were at the heads of the table, with their wives to their right, with spots for the four kids on either side of the table. Eli had decided to hop into the chair right next to Ariella and Ayelet took the one beside Eli. It left two open spots, side by side on the opposite table with Rachel Adler.

Ari and Rachel eyed each other from across the table and smiled. The night couldn't be any more perfect than it was turning out to be. "Toby dear," Ari passed over the metal kiddush cup to him with a small matching plate beneath it. The cup was overflowing with a sweet wine that Ari had been saving for a Shabbos like this. "Make kiddush?" At that, she stood up and everyone else at the table followed suit.

Apparently they weren't waiting for Jack. It sort of figured. Toby reluctantly accepted the cup from his mother. He wasn't crazy about being the center of attention. It was something like stage fright. He was very good at going through the motions though, so he wasn't exaclty worried about saying anything incorrectly. He probably would have had to do it twice though, had Jack been there, reciting kiddush in English for Jack after already saying it in Hebrew, thus lengthening the time in which everyone's attention would be on him.

Once finished doing his part, he drank from the cup and passed it to Eden, since he'd not so subtly been seated next to her.
