Who: Brooke Hopkins and Julius Hudson
What: Questions of faith
Where: St. Jude's Church (or what's left of it)
When: Backdated to last week
The church was quiet. Almost too quiet. The lack of sound was foreign to Brooke's ears. The serenity that might have usually engulfed her while in such a sacred place seemed absent today and every single day since the death of her father. This was the house of God, but it seemed to Brooke that God didn't live here any more. He'd packed up his holy water and gone off to some place where Brooke couldn't reach Him anymore. Had that actually been the case? Or had Brooke herself severed the ties she had to God and to the church in her father's absence?
She looked a right mess. It had been years since her father's death, but Brooke never seemed to have recovered. She went Bella Swan for a while, almost catatonic for months. Her father. Her fucking father. He was her strength, her rock, her everything, the reason she went to church and prayed and believed. And he was gone. And would she ever see him again? Truly see him again? Brooke was a smart girl. She knew she wouldn't always get to be with her father. She just wasn't expecting to be without him so soon. It wasn't fair. And she'd been over it a thousand times in her head.
"Why God, why?" She shook her head. "Answer me, you son of a bitch."
