Brooke had to admit she'd been a little startled at the booming voice at first. She thought she was going crazy on top of her severe depression, which would just be an insult to injury at this point. But eventually, she realized the source of the voice and calmed herself down. There is no God, she repeated to herself. There couldn't have been, not when He had allowed all these things to happen. Brooke had long since given up on caring about her safety. She usually just wanted to be left alone.
Julius, however, was one of those rare people she would let in on occasion. The occasions were few and far between, but they existed, which likely gave all those who feared for her sanity a bit of hope. He wasn't a comfort to her per say, but Brooke didn't mind when he was around. It was nice to have someone who didn't always treat you like you were going to break. "That's good," she replied in an almost bored tone. "How's your electricity?"
