Who: Laura and Macy When: Monday night, May 31st Where: The park What: Revealing a secret Rating: PG/PG-13 Status: Incomplete
Laura sat on the park bench, her folded hands pressing against her mouth. Had the expression on her face been anywhere close to peaceful, she might've been mistaken for someone praying. That is, if Laura had believed in prayer. She was glad that Macy had agreed to meet her at that park. At any other time, Laura would've been happy to come pick Macy up, but, given the newest spat between Albert and herself, the last place she wanted to be was at home. That was where separate cars were an advantage - at the end of her conversation with Macy, she could easily send her daughter home and "go back to work," giving her another excuse to sleep at the office. She wouldn't be able to keep up that schedule forever, though, and she knew it. Still, it was easier for her to avoid the conflict of coming home, at least for now. Intellectually she knew she should probably talk to someone about this - Emma was undoubtedly her best bet - but the very thought of airing her problems like that made her squirm.
At least she would get to see Macy tonight, though. That was something. It was hard for anyone not to be happier around Macy - the girl seemed to carry sunshine in her pocket. With any luck, Macy's news, whatever it was, would be good. Given everything she'd been through in the past 24 hours, Laura wasn't so sure how well she'd be able to handle anything but good news. Her mind was already racing from Jamie's revealing his secret, but as much as she would've loved to concentrate on that, Laura's emotions were getting in the way. She'd been over and over the circumstances fifty times in her head, but she just couldn't understand Albert's logic. Why hadn't he told her? What benefit could there possibly be from that particular lie? Laura's brow creased deeply and her jaw clenched as she tried to fight off the impending wave of emotion that threatened to overtake her. As a distraction, she reached for the bag of Chinese food she'd just picked up and began to methodically open the steaming containers of rice, dumplings, and chicken. As much as she hated to admit it, Laura needed Macy, and especially Macy's sunshine.
