Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Chris Knight and Open to Anyone
When: March 28
Where: Park between the two apartment buildings
Rating: I'm guessing PG.

Chris sat with a history book in his hands, laying down on a park bench. It's all he had been doing since they left Quarantine. He didn't know anyone. He was taken from the 1980s. Everyone he could have even began to think of to contact would be long since dead by now.

He closed it, frustratingly. So much had happened, so much had changed, that even he couldn't get his head wrapped all the way around it. He was the science genius. He suddenly missed Mitch and wondered if they could figure this out together if he were here. Without anything to test, Chris felt lost.

Chris was actually grateful to hear the first part. He laughed at the second. "That's hilairous. Did he get thrown out?"

"Nope, he got a second term. Then they elected this guy that in Oz, at least, we kinda figured was your village idiot whose Dad had the job before the cigar guy."

Chris laughed again. She's pretty funny. "Oz?" he asked.

"Back home. Oz. Australia." She grinned.

"Oh, never heard of it like that," he laughed. "Gotchya. Sorry," he grinned sheepishly.

"No problem." Heather laughed, quiet, "I kinda use a lot of slang, used to people from quarentine calling me on it."

"It's okay, really," Chris smiled. "I mean, we're all from different decades. We'll all be confused as hell for a while. "

"To say the least." She agreed, giving him a wry smile. "It's a shame, really."

Chris shrugged. "Yeah, but we'll all be okay. We can adapt better than we think we can. Not that I'm not frustrated. I'm not used to being so confused."

"I'm not confused at all." She laughed quietly, "There are people way smarter than me working on this, and good luck to 'em, I say."

He grinned. "So you said something about sand earlier? What'd you do back in 2005?"

"I was a lifeguard." She grinned back, "Pretty much since I was legally old enough to be."

Chris' mind went straight into the gutter at that statement and he smiled at her again, only a little bit wider. "Well, I'm sure they have pools in Seattle."

"I do. I was living in California before this all happened," he laughed too and suddenly pictured a bunch of girls in bikinis at the beach.

He luckily was an only child. He was very tempted to see if he could look up his best friend, Mitch, but he knew the possibility of him being dead was extremely high. Mitch was born in 1970 after all. Since it was 20 years in the future, maybe she'd have more luck with her brother. "Heard anything about him?"

"Not really. They told me he was alive and well, that's it. My dad's in some hospital recovering from a major heart attack, and I don't know. I love him but we were never close."

"I don't even know." She laughed, quiet, "Trying kinda hard to not think about it. I'm not even sure they're sure about it, you know? She said 'a Miles Cameron', never guarenteed it was the right one."

Chris nodded. "Yeah. Could be him though. From what I've heard, it's not uncommon for people to live to past 100 now. Which is great, but who knows?" he smiled. Maybe he would try to look up Mitch. "So, where you staying, Heather? Building A or Building B? Aren't those the most unoriginal names ever? They need to be called something more exciting."
