Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Chris Knight and Open to Anyone
When: March 28
Where: Park between the two apartment buildings
Rating: I'm guessing PG.

Chris sat with a history book in his hands, laying down on a park bench. It's all he had been doing since they left Quarantine. He didn't know anyone. He was taken from the 1980s. Everyone he could have even began to think of to contact would be long since dead by now.

He closed it, frustratingly. So much had happened, so much had changed, that even he couldn't get his head wrapped all the way around it. He was the science genius. He suddenly missed Mitch and wondered if they could figure this out together if he were here. Without anything to test, Chris felt lost.

"Oh yeah," Chris grinned and leaned back a bit. "Had an absolute blast. You surf a lot then?"

"Hell yeah." She laughed, "My brother's turning pro." She paused a moment. "Turned pro, by now. I guess."

He luckily was an only child. He was very tempted to see if he could look up his best friend, Mitch, but he knew the possibility of him being dead was extremely high. Mitch was born in 1970 after all. Since it was 20 years in the future, maybe she'd have more luck with her brother. "Heard anything about him?"

"Not really. They told me he was alive and well, that's it. My dad's in some hospital recovering from a major heart attack, and I don't know. I love him but we were never close."

"Wow. I heard medicine had really advanced, but that's amazing that he's still alive. How old would he have to be now?"

"I don't even know." She laughed, quiet, "Trying kinda hard to not think about it. I'm not even sure they're sure about it, you know? She said 'a Miles Cameron', never guarenteed it was the right one."

Chris nodded. "Yeah. Could be him though. From what I've heard, it's not uncommon for people to live to past 100 now. Which is great, but who knows?" he smiled. Maybe he would try to look up Mitch. "So, where you staying, Heather? Building A or Building B? Aren't those the most unoriginal names ever? They need to be called something more exciting."

"Neither, actually. Not far from here but. I don't know, didn't want to be in a government house any longer than I had to. It's a crappy apartment I share with a woman and her baby but it'll do for now, I guess."

"Bout damned time then, huh?" he smiled. This conversation was nice. Hell, he wasn't even compelled to hit on her like he usually hit on women. He knew it was because of everything that was happening. He felt a bit changed.

Chris would have usually asked for the girl's number or made a ton of sexual innuendos by this point, but she was the first real "friend" he'd met since he got here and he didn't want to scare he off. Chris Knight with tact! It was an amazing thing. "We should definitely hang out sometime."

"Definitely." She agreed easily, "I'll give you my number... if I can remember it. Would the address be easier?"

Chris pulled a small notepad he used to write down ideas in and a pen. "Sure, either one." He flipped through about twenty pages of little model drawings and scrawled notes and jotted down his number. He ripped out the page and handed her both the notebook and the page. "Here you go."

She wrote the address first, then what she was fairly sure was the phone number, "Try not to call after about nine though. Kid's pretty good at sleeping but if anything wakes him up? Oish."
