Who: Kayla Hart and Jayden Tanaka
Where: Crevasse Coffee House
When: May 1st, 2049
Rating: Always PG-13 when Kayla is involved.
Summary: Kayla and Jayden meet for the first time.
Warnings: Bloodshed Cursing
Kayla wanted to punch someone in the face. Other people would suggest she count to ten (or ten million as the case may be) or punch a pillow instead, but even if she did each of those, she'd still have the strong desire to punch someone in the face. She didn't even care who she punched, as long as they were close to her age (even she would feel terrible if she punched someone young or someone old) and willing to take it. Kayla couldn't recall a single time in her life when she had been this furious. Of course, it wasn't every day her life fell completely apart.
The month of April had to have been the worst month of her life. After Adam and Krysanthe's match didn't work out, Adam decided to travel the world before being forced to settle down, finishing his classes for the semester on his Helper. Kayla hadn't heard from him in weeks and she hated him for making her worry. She was in love with the thoughtless bastard but, even more than that, he was her best friend. That should have counted for something but apparently not, since he didn't have the decency to send her a short message letting her know where he was. The day before, Kayla had called his mother, but of course she had no idea where he was, either.
To make matters even better, Kayla lost her roommate. She knew for a while that something was going on with River and her family, then suddenly, River was packing her things and moving back in with her family. Soon after, Mateo left the house with a message saying his marriage had been terminated. Kayla went from having a full house to being completely alone in the four bedroom townhouse. She spent the next week packing up the rest of River's things (River was still her boss and could order her around, after all), trying not to think of the reasons behind her own match termination. Apparently, the Kai person didn't want to be around her, either, which was just as well since her best friend nor her roommate wanted to stick around.
All in all, Kayla felt entirely justified for feeling upset and then to top it off, the government decided to pair her with someone new, without giving her proper time to deal with her former fiance bailing out on her. She was used to feeling upset about various situations, since her mother all but abandoned her when she was five and when she decided it would be a good idea to fall in love with her best friend at sixteen. However, when she saw the newest message for her from the government, her feelings went beyond upset. She had sat in front of her helper, shaking from her fury, having no idea how to even deal with all the rage she felt.
She knew the government had supreme say in what she could or couldn't do in her life now, but this went too far. For months, she felt as if she was unmatchable and undesirable for any man, but now men were being lined up by the government to ensure she was married one way or the other. With Kai, she hadn't been at all happy with the arrangement yet she knew what she had to do in order to keep the government and the police from breathing down her neck. She would be forced into having a baby whether she protested or not and the least she could do was lie there and take it until she became pregnant and could go about her life as normal. The baby would have gone up for adoption and that would have been that.
Now, however, there was someone else on the "make a baby" list, and Kayla had the impression she, nor any other person in the marriage program, was seen as people, but as breeding horses. The best stallion was paired with a mare so they could produce the best little colt. No one had ever asked the mare who she wanted to be with, though. Hell, the mare could have even been interested in other mares, but a baby was needed and the mare had to fulfill her "duty".
The entire situation was bullshit and she refused to cooperate in the slightest. If this Jayden guy thought he would be getting a nice, sweet wife, he was about to be terribly mistaken. Kayla was hurt, pissed, and out for blood. She still wanted to punch someone and if she couldn't punch someone from the government, the knew bastard she was paired with would do just fine.
She could still pretend to play nice, though, which was why she was sitting at Cravasse Coffee House, waiting for her new fiance to appear. The night before, all she wanted to do was tell him to fuck off and sign the papers, but her conscious spoke up, telling her to at least try and be nice to the guy. It wasn't his fault he was paired with someone who was emotionally unbalanced at the moment.
"Stupid bastards," Kayla muttered to herself, slowly shredding the paper napkin to shreds, barely aware of what she was doing. Everyone had their limits and she had gone far and beyond hers.
