So far, so...not good. Barely a minute had passed and Jayden already felt discouraged. It was very difficult for him to keep his smile on, and he tried, but he just couldn't help it. Kayla was being downright unpleasant, and he didn't like it.
"I like the view from up here," he responded to her, folding his arms. "Makes you look a lot less scary than your tone makes you out to be." Something nagged at him to hurry and retract the joke - did he really want to piss her off more? - but he needed to stay on top or he was going to go down brutally.
He finally sat, surveying her features. She was attractive, and you could tell that she was a workaholic. For one, she was dressed up for work despite the fact that it was May Day, which even he had off - and he considered himself to be a fairly busy workaholic. She also had her phone on her ear, as though she didn't mind receiving calls in the middle of her first date with her future husband. Attractive, yes. Rude, yes.
"You know," he said in a soft voice, acting as though he was relaying a secret. "You really aren't nearly as frightening as I thought you would be."
He sincerely hoped he wasn't pissing her off more, though he thought that was unlikely. Despite facing the meeting with the resolve to make Kayla smile, he felt like he was being set up for an attack, and he wanted to defend himself as best he could.
"Can I buy you a coffee?" he added quickly and pleasantly, putting on his best smile.
