New Friends
Who: Aubrey and Cheryl
Where: Freedomtown -- Mar-Vell Park
When: Feb. 13th
Rating: M - Mentions of assault, self harm, sex
"You know, I'm not above shooting you little blighters if you don't stop harassing me," Cheryl muttered, narrowing her eyes at two cherubs that had taken flight near her. She'd set up a target and was practicing her archery in Mar-Vell park and was half-tempted to fire a warning shot... but for the fact that it didn't work last time and now there was another cherub near her. "Ugh. Fine. I'll take your flowers and chocolate. But that doesn't mean that I have to like it!"
"If it helps, love... the chocolates are pretty good." Aubrey said with a laugh as she walked by. "I think a few of them have taken a liking to me. I've been given about five boxes already." She added with a smirk, admittedly liking the attention.
Cheryl took the offerings from the cherubs and instead of saying 'thank you' like a normal person she said: "Okay, okay. You've done your good deed for the day. Now shoo!" She waved them off, which apparently they were all too happy to do now that their task was done. Cheryl looked over to Aubrey. "Well then, I'm sure my TT will like them." She frowned in consternation. "Why did Valentine's Day have to come up so suddenly? I'm usually on top of things but this year..." She sighed heavily (and perhaps a bit dramatically).
Aubrey felt an eyebrow go up in a hilariously Neely-like way. Oh, this one was a drama queen. Nice to know. "Yeah... 'spose I should be grateful that my Aurora is a gleeful romantic." Aubrey laughed, shrugging. "Forget tons of planning and stress... just be romantic and genuine and she's the happiest person in the world."
"That's sweet." Cheryl set the gifts aside so she could take her bow back up. She took aim. The target was a good distance away, but she hit the bullseye without any difficulty. It wasn't a challenge anymore. "I probably do overdo it but... she puts up with a lot. I just don't want her to forget that there's love there, you know?" That was more honesty than Cheryl had given anyone in quite a while. Why she chose to unload on Aubrey was anyone's guess.
"Trust me." Aubrey said with a laugh, rolling her eyes. "I know exactly what you mean. If you know the things Aurora has had to put up with from me? You'd give the girl a medal."
Cheryl gave Aubrey a surprised expression. "For the way you talk about her I wouldn't have thought there was any... bad history there." So... Cheryl thrived on drama. Still, she was genuinely curious. Maybe there was room to make a new friend here.
"She's an angel given human form." Aubrey said, smirking wryly. "Me, on the other hand... let's just say I've had enough bouts of depression, self-harming, assault, and more to fill a bloody Lifetime movie."
Cheryl stilled when she heard the word 'assault'. That was something that she knew as well, although not to the extent that Aubrey did (not that she knew that). "I tried to kill myself once," she offered in return. "And it wasn't to be dramatic." She rolled her eyes. "Have you ever loved someone so much that you couldn't bear living in a world without them in it?" Well... this conversation took a dark turn.
"Mm. That would be me, when I first showed up here. Without Aurora." Now, keep in mind Aubrey kept her thoughts to herself about as well as Rachelle did. "Ended up trolling for rough, painful, degrading sex just to not think about her."
Huh. That was more honesty than Cheryl expected. She decided in that instant that she liked this girl. "And how did that work out for you?" She asked. If one looked close enough they could visibly see her drop her guard and that was a very rare thing for Cheryl Blossom.
"Well... it could've been a lot worse, I'll say that." Aubrey admitted with a sad tone. "Luckily I ended up with someone who.... definitely indulged, but also kept me safe."
Cheryl nodded. Safety was definitely important when it came to rough sex. "And... Aurora knows all of this and chose to be with you anyway?" She still had trouble fathoming it with Toni. How could Toni love her when sometimes it felt like she was rotten to her core?
"I hated telling her... but I had to." Aubrey sighed, nodding. "She deserved to know what a wanker I'd been. But she.... never even considered not being with me. She just accepted who I am, what I did... and loved me. I don't deserve her, if we're being completely honest. I go to bed every night terrified that one day she's going to realize it."
Cheryl nodded. She often thought the same thing about Toni. It was why she tended to be overly affectionate, especially around Valentine's Day. Because sometimes she felt like... one day might be their last. "That sounds like True Love to me. She sees you for all of your flaws and loves you anyway."
"I know that our.... beginnings have a lot to do with it." She wasn't about to give too much detail about Aurora to a stranger, but she'd say this. "She was very sick when we met. And I... just stuck by her through all of it. I think it really meant a lot to her. I loved her too much to ever consider anything else."
"Has anyone ever told you that you're a sweetheart? You can have your bad days but... underneath it all you have a lot of love to give." Cheryl offered Aubrey the bow. "Indulge me."
"I come from good stock." Aubrey said, proudly. While she'd become the legal daughter of Rachelle, Neely, and Morgan, she still had much love and pride in her father, birth mother, and sister. She took the bow then, eyes widening. "Are... you entirely sure? Honestly. I have the athletic ability of a quadriplegic."
Cheryl smiled. It was the kind of smile that lit up her entire face. It was rare, but it was genuine. "I think... with me to guide you? Nothing could possibly go wrong." While yes... that was a case of tooting her own horn, this was also apparently how Cheryl decided to make a new friend.
"Alright..." Aubrey said with a dubious tone, tightening her grip on the bow. "But if I hit someone, it's totally your fault." Oh god. This was such a bad, BAD idea.
Maybe. But apparently Cheryl had faith in this girl. Or at least in her ability to teach her. She told Aubrey how to hold the bow and nock the arrow. "Honestly, if you hit one of those cherubs I think I'd love you forever," she muttered. "Now. Take a breath."
"Hoookay. Taking a breath," Aubrey mumbled to herself, trying to find the strength to hold the bow steady. She never knew how much arm strength this took!
Cheryl really did make it look easy. She asked permission to touch before adjusting Aubrey's posture slightly then followed her line of sight. Apparently satisfied, she nodded. "And... loose."
Sure, it wasn't a GREAT shot, but hey! At least she managed to hit the target and not some poor pedestrian! "Whoa... brilliant! That was... exhilarating!"
"Isn't it? More than anything I just feel--" Cheryl paused but decided not to censor herself. "I might not have control of a lot of things in my life, but this gives me... well, it reminds me that I'm a strong, mad as hell woman who's capable of anything if I put my mind to it."
".....bloody HELL that's sexy." Aubrey blurted out, blinking a little. Much like Rachelle, if she thought it? She said it. There was little to no filter involved. "You know.... I suspect you and I could become very good friends. Aubrey Blackhall. What's your name, love?"
"Cheryl Blossom." She decided to drop the pomp and omit her middle name. See? She was growing as a person! Cheryl gingerly took the bow from Aubrey's grasp and instead offered her a hand to shake. "And I agree. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
