Sexual Attraction, or Something More?
Who: Angela and Cosima
Where: Angela's Apartment
When: Monday, June 15th
What: Cosima sending mixed signals
Rating: PG
Cosima probably should have called first. She didn't even know if Angela was home. But, she'd come by on a whim, so even if Angela WASN'T home at least she'd made the effort. Pursing her lips together, she knocked on Angela's front door, shifting from foot-to-foot. She couldn't really explain it, but she felt like she and Angela had a connection. She couldn't say for sure WHAT kind, but it was within her nature to want to explore it. Hence the visit.
Now, keep in mind that Angela didn't have the same ideals of modesty and things of that nature that the average woman would have. That said, when the warrior goddess answered the door in only her underwear, we should probably just thank the heavens that she had THAT much on. She raised an eyebrow slowly, blinking once. "Well. Had I known I was getting company I'd have put clothes on. Please, come in and relax while I go and get dressed."
Cosima almost said that there wasn't any hurry but wisely kept her mouth shut and nodded mutely, trying not to stare for a good few seconds as her brain processed what she was seeing. "Thanks for that," she eventually said, stepping across the threshold into the apartment.
After a few minutes, the tall redhead re-emerged, now wearing a simple pair of black spandex shorts and matching tank top. She very nearly put on her armor, but for the fact that Cosmo had requested that she try to dress more "mortal", so as to not intimidate the refugees. Sitting down on the sofa, she blinked at her guest and gestured to the opposite side of the sofa. "Please. Have a seat. So... what brings you by?"
Cosima took a look around the apartment while she waited for Angela to dress. When she reemerged from her room, Cosima gave her a smile. "I just figured it'd been a while," Cosima explained simply as shrugged out of her favorite red jacket, revealing maroon jeans and a black three-quarter length clingy shirt underneath. She set the jacket aside. "How have you been?" She asked as she took a seat.
"Lonely." Angela told her, ever the all-too-honest type. "I.... worry for our friendship if you stay here too long today." She said with a frustrated sigh as she looked the woman over. Good lord she looked good.
Cosima frowned lightly and gave Angela a puzzled smile. "I'm not sure that I follow you." Although she was starting to piece it together by how Angela was looking at her.
"I am... extremely attracted to you. And right now all I can think about is dragging you to my bedroom and exploring every single inch of your body." WELL THEN! Once again, points for honesty, right? "And I really do not wish to lose another person I care about."
"Do you think that being intimate with someone would give them cause to leave you?" Cosima asked, trying to understand Angela's mindset.
"No... but I know your heart is with someone else. And I don't want to... what's the expression? 'Make things weird'." Heh. She was learning, folks. Slowwwwwly but surely.
Cosima leaned her arm against the sofa and cupped her neck with her hand, her expression softening. "You know, we don't know all that much about each other," she pointed out, figuring that if it was just a sexual attraction then Angela would get past it.
"Agreed. What I *do* know about you... is that you are beautiful. Kind. Amusing. Gentle. You are the type of person that makes me realize that mortals can still be worth caring about, even after another breaks your heart." Angela gave a lopsided grin, eyes flickering over the other woman slowly. "I do not know much about your life... but I know something far more important. Who you ARE."
"That's... really sweet of you to say." And how many others had seen this side of Angela? "We don't have to go to that other room," Cosima murmured. "Intimacy is one thing... and okay, it's amazing, but that's not all there should be with relationships."
"I.... what exactly are you telling me?" Angela asked, unsure of where Cosima was going here. Was she saying she didn't want to have sex with her? Was she saying she wanted to date her instead? Was she saying she wanted both? UGH, she hated how hard humans were to understand at times.
Cosima moved her mouth to one side thoughtfully. "I'm not sure if your feelings for me are romantic or a product of loneliness, but either way sex shouldn't be..." she sighed, her expression saddening, "please, can we be friends without sexual attraction getting in the way?"
"....we can indeed." Angela said, smiling in spite of her sadness. She was truly interested in being with this woman, not just in a sexual nature. But it would appear that interest was one-sided. "I value your friendship, Cosima. You are a truly wonderful, interesting woman."
"I'm not really feeling it right now." Cosima moved a little on the sofa, curling her legs underneath her. She really had to consider her relationship with Delphine and her friendship with Angela. Maybe it was time to reconcile herself with the fact that Delphine was never coming. Maybe then she could finally allow herself to move forward with something more tangible with the woman sitting next to her. "I'd understand if you'd ask me to leave."
"Never. You are one of the few beings I consider a true friend." Angela told her, her eyes holding clear sadness... and showing a woman obviously trying to fight the urge to shield herself from the world again.
Cosima's eyes flicked over Angela's form. She looked... wounded. "You know... I didn't notice all those weapons the last time I was here," she said, deciding to change the subject as she nodded at Angela's weapons mounted on the wall, "I bet they all have a story attached to them."
"Indeed. That sword hanging above the hallway... I used that while helping Lady Gamora fight off the Brotherhood of Badoon. It was merely she and I against hundreds of them... and we obliterated them." Angela said proudly, seeing what Cosima was trying to do and deciding to roll with it.
Cosima didn't even think to question if Angela was exaggerating the numbers. It seemed like something she was capable of. "You two must really work well together."
"We are... a very efficient team in battle. I believe Rocket has taken to calling us the "Murder Girls", which in an odd way is his version of a compliment." She smirked, feeling the urge to go out and indulge in some ultra-violence right NOW.
"How long have you all known each other?" Cosima asked, moving to rest her head on the back of the sofa, silently watching the other woman.
"I... would say it's been about a year now. The Guardians have become... probably the closest thing to a real family I have." She admitted, as while all of them, especially Peter and Rocket, occasionally grated on her last nerve, she really did have a real and true affection for all of them by this point.
"I think everyone deserves to have a family. Deserves to feel safe and loved. But I'm just... eternally optimistic, I guess." Cosima wrinkled her nose and glanced away briefly, fidgeting with her fingers as she momentarily got lost in thought. "You, especially, don't deserve to be alone. No matter how much you might think that you deserve it."
"I don't think I deserve to be alone... as much as I'm beginning to think it's my destiny. Every time I attempt to be anything else, it ends badly. For all involved." She sighed, thinking of all the chaos she'd inadvertently brought into the lives of everyone from her friend in the Guardians, all the way to her beloved companion Sera.
"I think I'd call that bad luck, not destiny," Cosima said, frowning thoughtfully. She felt like a complete dick for rejecting Angela now, but didn't think it was fair to start something while her heart and mind were with someone else.
"I'm not entirely sure I believe in luck." Angela said rather bluntly, trying now to comfort Cosima. She hated seeing the woman sad, and knowing she was somehow the cause of it. "Please... forgive me for being so forward with you."
"No. I'd rather you were honest," Cosima murmured. "I just... it wouldn't be fair on you, knowing that my thoughts would still be with her."
"I suppose I'm used to just... taking what I want. Not thinking about how others feel about it. And I failed to take your desires or lack of into consideration." Yep. This was about the closest thing to an apology you were gonna get from Angela, everyone. Take it and be happy with it.
"Oh, there's desire," Cosima said before she could stop herself. "Like I said, when I'm with someone I'm with them. In my heart I feel like I'm still hers, and until she either comes here or I find it in me to let her go... I couldn't be with anyone else. Does that make sense?" She hoped that it did.
"It does. I hope this woman realizes what she has, Cosima. Because you are indeed something to be cherished." Angela told her, leaning in to place an affectionate kiss on the other woman's forehead. Awww.
Cosima let her eyes briefly flutter closed at the sign of affection and took one of Angela's hands in both of hers. "You're someone to be cherished too, Angela. I want you to know that."
"Thank you for your kind words." The redhead told her, obviously not at all accustomed to talking about things like this. She was a warrior. She spoke with violence more than with words.
"They're not kind. They're honest," Cosima told her. "Which is what you've shown me," she added, bringing Angela's hand up and kissing her knuckles. Still, she knew that she was sending the other woman mixed messages and didn't want to confuse her any more, which was why she stood up and gestured for Angela to do the same. "Please be safe."
"You as well. Perhaps you would like to share a meal later in the week?" She asked, hiding her frustration and feelings behind the emotionless, stoic gaze she typically gave.
Cosima thought about that. "Should one of us attempt to cook, or should we eat out somewhere?"
"I suspect you would NOT want to dine upon anything I attempted to cook." Angela laughed(!), knowing her limits. She was a hunter, not a chef. "If you are capable, you could prepare something. If not, then perhaps we should dine elsewhere."
"I'm... okay with cooking." Cosima laughed, admitting her own weakness there. "But I'll introduce you to my roommate and I'm sure hilarity will ensue."
"Then I shall look forward to it." Angela replied, trying her best to come off as warm and friendly, as she knew her typical demeanor tended to be off-putting to most people.
Cosima recognized that she was trying, at least. "Thank you for being so understanding," she said. She kissed Angela's cheek, then stepped back and gave her an awkward wave. "I'll see you soon."
