Kyle didn't go to the Crashdown with everyone else after Max made them retreat. No, he had one goal in mind; go to Amber. What Isabel said to him about it not being just him anymore was what kept him fighting because she was right. He had someone to fight for and someone to go home to. He was so focused on getting to her that he didn't notice that Maria wasn't with them when they left. As he neared the hospital, he noticed a dead body and he paid his respects then he alerted the family. Once they arrived, he gave his condolences then made his way to the hospital. When he found the main entrance to be sealed off, he found another way in and made his way to where he thought Amber would be. Sure enough, that is where he found her. "I'm here and ready for my running into each other's arms moment" He said to announce his presence, a tired smile on his face. His clothes were ripped and dirty and he had guns strapped to him. He was in solider mode now and trying to get out of it as he stood there but he was still the same Kyle she knew and loved.

Amber's phone alarm went off again. She'd set it to go off once an hour to remind her to text Aaron. She wanted to give him all the routine possible to hold onto during this mess. He needed stability and she would make sure she'd give him as much as she could. Even in the midst of the world falling apart.

She sent him a quick text letting him know she was fine, then slipped her phone back into her coat pocket. She rubbed the back of her aching neck and was debating going to get some coffee when she heard Kyle's voice behind her.

Relief flooded her body, and she felt some of the dull edged panic leave her. He was back with her again. She turned to face him with her own tired smile.

"How about a mildly exhausted walk into each other's arms?" Despite her words, Amber hurried to wrap her arms tightly around him.

"I'll take that" Kyle replied as he moved forward to meet her in the middle. He took a moment to make sure his guns weren't in the way then he wrapped his arms around and hugged her to him.

He was probably one of the only one of the Roswell team that used weapons over his powers. His powers just felt unnatural to him and therefore, he didn't use them very often. Actually he didn't use them at all unless he really needed to. And what they had to take down tonight? He really didn't need to because the weapons he had with him, some he built himself, had done the job.

"It looks like there were a ton of those parasite things outside the main entrance but they were killed. It's closed off so I had to find another way in" He explained as he pulled back a little so she could see her face. Right now he needed to keep her in his arms so he didn't want to move too far away.

Amber clung tightly to him. She wasn't the type of woman who was great with expressing emotions a lot of the time, but everything she was feeling was conveyed through the desperation in that hug. She'd never say it out loud, but she was terrified.

"Yeah," she nodded, trying to ignore the headache forming from exhaustion and low blood sugar. She couldn't remember the last time she'd eaten. "They were closing in on the hospital. But something stopped them." She hadn't heard just who it had been yet, or how it had all happened. The details would come later, she was sure.

"But I'm glad you made it in." She brushed some of his hair out of his eyes and leaned in to kiss him.

"Nothing would have stopped me from getting here, especially not those things" He told her, tapping one of hie guns. Whether he had to use his guns or his powers, he would have made it into this place and to her one way or another. Taking his hand back off of the gun, he placed it on her waist as he leaned in and kissed her back. Pulling away, he took her hand and walked with her a little ways down the hall towards the oncall room. Opening the door, he peeked into make sure no one was in there then he lead her in and towards the bed. Shedding off all of his weapons, he put them on the floor and sat down, opening his arms to her. "You look exhausted"

Amber willingly allowed herself to be led to the on-call room. She was so tired her body felt like it weighed a thousand pounds. She knew she looked it too. They both did. What she was doing here at the hospital may not have been the same as standing in an OR or fighting off parasites with weapons, but it still took its toll.

She gave him a tired laugh and dropped down next to him on the bed. "You charmer, you." Her head dropped to rest on his shoulder.

"Just wait until I get going" He joked as he wrapped his arm around her. He was too worn out to be at his best right now, which is why he said the next thing he said in a very Kyle Valenti way. Most guys would get down on one knee and pull out a ring after saying a big speech. He wasn't most guys, though, and did it his own way. "What do you think about being my wife someday?" He asked after a little bit of silence between them where they could just relax and enjoy each other's company.

"Oh, I've seen you when you get going." She continued to smile and leaned into him with her eyes closed. Already her edges felt less jagged. Kyle had a way of softening her. She was focusing on the sound of his breathing in the quiet of the room while unknotting the tension in her shoulders when he spoke again.

It took a moment for the words to actually sink in, but once they did, Amber froze. Her initial reaction was to freak out. To bolt out of the room so she could overthink and overanalyze in private.

But an impulse was all it was. When she lifted her head and looked him in the eye, she remembered everything else. How he made her laugh. How they looked after each other. How every night she came home to him was the best she'd ever felt.

"I think I'd like that."

Part of him was worried that she would say no with how long she was talking to reply. It seemed like hours to him, even though it was only just seconds. Another part of him knew that it was a big question to ask and that it was natural that she would need a few seconds to think about it. He turned towards her when she lifted her head up and he smiled at her answer. "Cool so we're engaged now" He declared, leaning in to kiss her. He held it there for a long moment then he pulled away. "And I think the first thing we should do as an engaged couple is sleep" He said with a laugh as he laid back, pulling her with him. It wasn't the most romantic proposal but it suited them and he was pretty happy about it.

	It wasn't long before they were both asleep wrapped in each others arms. An undetermined amount of time later, someone began shaking them awake. Kyle groaned a little bit, not happy to be woken up, and he swatted the hand away, pulling Amber in closer to her like he didn't want to let her go, his eyes still closed. Isabel still looked remarkably put together for everything she'd been through that day. The fighting. The retreat. The loss. The heartbreak.

She stood in the doorway of the oncall room watching Kyle and Amber sleep for a few moments. Dressed all in black, she felt a bit like Death waiting to prey on their peace. But it had to be done. And if Kyle had to hear that his sister was dead, Isabel wouldn't let him hear the news from anyone but her.

Unable to put it off any longer, Isabel crossed the room on silent feet and bent down to gently shake them out of their slumber. She sighed when he swatted her hand away. "Kyle, get up. It's important." Her tone conveyed the urgency of the matter and she knew that would get him up far quicker than anything else.

The urgency in her voice went through Kyle's ears like a sonic boom and he shut right up, banging his head on the bunk above him. "OW! Shi- Man that hurts" He was going to have a headache later that was for sure. Rubbing his head a little bit, he yawned then looked over to Isabel. "Have I got news for you" He said, his voice, nice and light before he got serious remembering what she said that woke him up. "What is it? What happened?" He asked, concern on his face.

A wince of sympathy crossed Isabel's features as Kyle managed to slam his head into the metal frame of the bunk bed. She could see a small red welt already beginning to form there. And behind him, Amber stirred awake. She was quicker to rise than Kyle. Isabel supposed it was the doctor in her. Being roused from sleep seemed to be a part of their every day.

"Kyle." She was trying to keep herself together but her voice cracked slightly. "It's Maria. She didn't make it." Tears had begun running down her face again.
