Isabel still looked remarkably put together for everything she'd been through that day. The fighting. The retreat. The loss. The heartbreak.
She stood in the doorway of the oncall room watching Kyle and Amber sleep for a few moments. Dressed all in black, she felt a bit like Death waiting to prey on their peace. But it had to be done. And if Kyle had to hear that his sister was dead, Isabel wouldn't let him hear the news from anyone but her.
Unable to put it off any longer, Isabel crossed the room on silent feet and bent down to gently shake them out of their slumber. She sighed when he swatted her hand away. "Kyle, get up. It's important." Her tone conveyed the urgency of the matter and she knew that would get him up far quicker than anything else.
