"I always thought Albus was better fitted as a former Slytherin than Gryffindor. I'd only heard rumours of his House placement and I'm not sure I believe them."
He listened to her explain and thought about it. His skill at Legilimency meant that he was called upon for many interrogations among the Death Eaters and occasionally for Albus. He'd been inside many minds, the whole and the broken. In St Mungo's, there were Healers with intense Legilimency training whose job it was to sit in the mental health ward and try to piece fractured minds back together again. Severus didn't think they had much of a success rate, but he didn't know. Still, he'd seen enough to have an idea of how such a process might work. Sometimes, he could feel a breech, like a great schism that had to be gotten over to touch the information on the other side.
"It makes sense," he answered. "Perhaps the block that was keeping you sheltered from yourself is now dissipating as you come to understand what happened? Perhaps some important part of your psyche feels safer here so that it's not so crucial to hold onto whatever it is that was blocking you.
"But I wouldn't wish greater intensity of emotion on you." It was bloody fucking miserable most of the time. "I'm glad you feel you're getting better, though."
