Dinner Party - Draco & Orion
WHO: Draco Malfoy & Orion Black
WHAT: Getting to know each other.
WHERE: Malfoy Manor
WHEN: Saturday evening
RATING: PG
STATUS: Pending
Draco was glad he and Astoria planned the dinner party. Until recently, he had been so wary and timid of others, like anything he said would be used against him. He stuck to those closest to him, performed at his job, and basically avoided anyone who didn’t seem enthused by his presence in the village. It hurt, but what could he do? Proving himself over and over was tiresome. It was pretty obvious he changed at home and in the village too so it wasn’t his responsibility to keep hitting people over the head with it. And those who didn’t even know him? Those who wanted to judge only on his last name? Perhaps it was karma, but Draco wasn’t going to argue the point every time someone showed up. He liked to think his Mental Healer might call his outlook progress, but it was also a lonely way to live. Draco didn’t want to lose himself completely. He wanted to be a better person, but he wasn’t shy. He wasn’t hesitant. He was confident. He wanted that part of himself back. This party? It was a step in the right direction.
With the hardest part over, Draco planned to enjoy himself. He grabbed a glass of wine after dinner and headed to the casual seating area. He’d join his mates on the dance floor after he digested. He was looking around to make sure everyone seemed content when he spotted Orion not far off. Draco had a soft spot for his family even though most of his mother’s side were long gone by the time Draco was old enough to know them. Of course, it was complicated in the village not only because of the varying ages, but because of the horrible things that happened in their real world…disownment, murder, death via broken heart, imprisonment, so on and so forth…
But, still. Draco tried with them. He could be hypocritical sometimes, but everyone deserved a chance in the village. Now what anyone did with that chance? That was up to him or her. The village and real world were similar in that regard.
Orion was young. Draco didn’t know how much of the future he really knew, but Draco did know he wouldn’t judge his uncle by it. He had been nothing but polite since he arrived and he even joined the family for a small gathering last week. Draco hoped it was a step in the right direction. He wanted his family to have new, improved lives. For many, this was their only shot. That in mind, he smiled and called over, “Orion, would you like to join me for a bit?”
