James wasn’t the type of person who had a plan for things, he liked to play them by ear and deal with things as they came along (and to be honest, James often lacked the foresight to put together a plan with too many interchangeable variables). But he had come up with a plan for Sirius, he’d even talked it over with Remus while the other man had taken his shower. They’d decided to give him time to relax, but apparently he couldn’t trust people not to immediately ruin that.
He was annoyed, but he couldn’t really be mad at Lily, she hadn’t done anything intentionally, but he was worried. They’d only just got Sirius back around, and he didn’t want to lose his best mate. Nor did he want Sirius to have to deal with any of those repercussions. He knew right away that if Sirius caught up with Peter before James could get to him, that he’d take the fall for him at all costs.
Luckily, when he pushed open the bedroom door, Sirius was still there. “Thank Merlin.” He sighed. He couldn’t help himself. “Maybe you should sit down and relax, alright?” James said it as casually as he could, but he was nervous.
