Who: James Potter and Remus Lupin
What: drinking and talking about the future
Where: The pub
When: Friday night.
The pub was busy, and it took James a minute to realize that it was a Friday night. He could barely even remember how many days he’d been here, everything was so hard to keep track of. He’d been given some of the absolutely best and absolute worse news within hours of each other, and while he kept trying to distract himself with the prospect of a new born daughter at any moment, he was still faced with his own imminent mortality.
And that was the thing that was hardest for him to reason, because he’d always felt immortal. Even when he was facing two or three Death Eaters, the odds always worked out for him, and even when his parents died he was upset but they were older. And it was all because he’d put his trust in the wrong person, he’ d put his trust in his best friend, in Peter and he’d betrayed them. And for what? They’d never really know would they? And furthermore, James couldn’t bring himself to care. No reason would be good enough.
So, he waited at the pub. Remus always sort of knew what to do. He was the best for advice, and maybe he could shed some light on the situation. He’d been quick to order a beer while he waited, drinking half of it in his first swig.
