Farming wasn't bad. It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't near enough to burn off all of the energy or restlessness that Cora had, but it made a dent. Of course, she didn't know a shit ton about it, either, but she'd learn because she had to. Everyone had to eat, so the food was a necessity. And for someone like Cora, who wasn't exactly good at sharing, helping, caring, or letting other people in that was sort of a step in the right direction. She was pulling her weight and helping make the camp run as a whole. Though, obviously, there was still a part of her that was selfish and focused on her and the rag-tag sort of pack that had formed here. Derek was a given, but Isaac was basically included in there too...plus with Malia arriving that rounded them out to a four. Then, there were the rest of the people from Beacon Hills who were at least somewhat familiar, even if not quite pack. Kira wasn't bad, and Stilinksi either, really. Before Cora, herself, had gone to Beacon Hills she hadn't had to think about so many people. Cora hadn't let much of anybody in, to protect herself after the fire. And even letting her brother back in had been difficult, but she'd done it. Now, letting him in had lead to being forced to face the necessity to let others in, which was hard. Cora was much better at throwing up walls and keeping people out. She was good at self-preservation. The best way to protect yourself was to keep from allowing anybody close enough to hurt you, and looking after others...she didn't have much experience overall. Ever since Beacon Hills, though, Cora had been struggling with loss and the repercussions of having been kidnapped. She'd led Boyd in, then she'd been hurt. She'd tried to keep Derek out, but he got in close again, anyway. Being in Brazil had been a comfort, that had been taken away, so now...here she was with the thoughts creeping up again...no college classes, sort of friends, or Sao Paulo life to distract her. Cora had already run her laps around the perimeter of the camp today, she'd even visited the green houses too. Her mind, and body, were just buzzing, though. She had to expel that energy. Soccer had helped the other day, but another pickup game wouldn't happen just yet. It wasn't like it could be an everyday thing. So, Cora had wound up in the gym, wearing a t-shirt, sneakers, and sweatpants. The t-shirt had been abandoned in favor of the sports bra underneath. She was going to find a way to burn the energy, and to quit thinking. She'd already done sit ups, even a few extra laps around the gym, and now she was standing under the chin-up bar. It was relatively tall, so she had to grab a chair to reach, but once she'd kicked it away and gripped carefully for her hold, she felt fine. Hanging there, Cora couldn't help but think, even if it was the opposite of what she wanted. She was basically the worst choice to help Malia act human. She was basically just a step above her cousin. She wasn't exactly normal herself, and Derek was right...she didn't have patience, even if she was trying. Pulling her body up, Cora felt her muscles working until she was able to sit her chin atop the bar. She then let herself fall back down to hang before she let out a groan and repeated the moment. Caught up in her own thoughts about another family member, her social ineptitude, what she'd read on the comms, and everything in between....the young werewolf was definitely distracted. Derek had carved a place out for himself here, made himself useful so that he wouldn't wind up kicked out lightly. She needed to do the same...for that reason, to seem normal, and because the way she was going was definitely getting hard...especially considering how small the camp was and how few and far between her options were when it came what how she could drain her time and energy here. And being an omega, and sort of an island unto herself for so long...even if self-imposed by fear, wasn't exactly easy, no matter how she acted, especially for a social creature...like a werewolf. |
