Hello! This is Seana, introducing my newest character, Classical Music. His information is here but I don't expect anyone to read 9000+ words, so here's a portion of his personality that sums him up rather well: Being the literal personification of a wide and varied field of music, his moods vary as much as his works do. Sometimes as sedate as the slowest, plodding largo and sometimes as upbeat and jittery as the quickest and most cheerful vivace prestissimo, he finds it hard to settle, to find a middle ground, to sink down into a ritardando and find a balance between mezzo-piano and mezzo-forte. And here's the tl;dr, tongue in cheek version of his history: Some ancient dudes composed some stuff. Things changed. Some Baroque dudes composed some stuff. Things changed. Some Classical dudes composed some stuff. Things changed. Some Romantic dudes composed some stuff. Things changed. Some modern dudes composed some stuff. The personification of all the previously mentioned stuff traveled around, teaching stuff, composing stuff, and performing stuff. Then he came to America to teach, compose, and perform some more stuff.
Music Gods: It is, of course, up to the individual characters when it comes to how they see Classical in a familial sense, or if they see him in a familial sense at all. I was thinking that he'd probably feel closest to Blues, Jazz, and Folk, due to the crossover and mixing that occurred during the twentieth century, and to Classic Rock, due to to the prevalence of classic rock bands borrowing classical music styles and, just to pick one artist out of the bunch, Paul McCartney's crossover into classical composition (Standing Stone, Ecce Cor Meum). But, as I don't want to assume a connection that might not be there, feel free to IM me with your thoughts about those particular characters! When it comes to the rest of the Music Gods, Classical is rather... uncertain regarding how he feels about them, but he'll be warm and friendly nonetheless. Am open for plot with any of them, of course!
Media/Entertainment-related New Gods: Well, obviously, there's Media and, yes, Vari, I will be bugging you about plot for them. XD Aside from that, there'd be some fun potential with Broadway (the less pop-culture-esque musicals could be a connecting point there), Television (hello, background music!), Horror (spooky film scores ftw!), Sci-Fi/Fantasy (John Williams and Howard Shore!) and perhaps even Video Games.
General New God plotting... there could be a connection with College (college orchestras, yes, yes!) and Figure Skating ("How many Carmen programs do you anticipate next season, Jackson?")
Muses: Ohai, Euterpe! There'd be some great potential for past plot between her and Classical. I have some basic thoughts but if you'd like to IM me, I'm sure we can work out something awesome! There's, of course, also room for some fun past plot, that could blossom into current plot, with Polyhymnia. Vari, I've been researching to find an opera tradegia that would work for Classical and Mel's first meeting, but I will likely bug you for her timeline so we can work out a location. And, on the flipside of the opera tragedia... Jess, there'd be some fun plot to play around with when it comes to Thalia and the opera comiques, even though not all of them were lighthearted and comedic. Oh, and... in regard to Urania... well, Teresa, I'd love to play around with something revolving around Holst's The Planets.
Greeks/Ancients in general: First of all, before I get into my ramble about the crossover between mythology and classical music, any god or goddess with a connection to music (sup, Hathor?) is welcome to plot with Classical Music. Really, he's got quite a long and varied history and there is tons of room to play around with backstory. There's also room for backstory with any Greek or Ancient who has ever had an opera or composition written about them. Wikipedia has a list, although it's not complete and only deals with Greeks and Romans. But! If you see your character's name on that list or know of a specific piece/opera written about them, we can plot fun backstory! Whether Classical Music met them prior to the piece being written and took it upon himself to push his composers in a certain direction or met them afterward and asked for their opinion on how he treated their story, it could be quite interesting.
Christians: Since Classical's roots came from religious chanting and since he first formed in a church and since his music was/is consistently performed in churches, he's got quite a connection to the Christian faith, whether or not they acknowledge that connection. XD He'll be attending Sunday services at St. Mark's and will be singing in the open choir, should anyone wish to run into him there.
Characters I'd give my first born to any who would consider taking them up: - Opera, perhaps as his son/daughter. *puppy dog eyes* - Ballet - Classicism - Romanticism
Why, no, I'm not a classical music geek, why do you ask? XD
Anyway, in terms of generalized plot, he'll be teaching mostly graduate classes at Juilliard in the fall and is also taking composition commissions and giving private musical lessons. Anyone who has characters who might want a musical piece commissioned or would like to learn any instrument, feel free to hit him up! As always, you can hit me up for plot/whatever on AIM at double8think. <3!
