Simple pleasures like taking a walk in the park were things Ares didn't indulge in much anymore. It was a pity, really - considering he was never really busy enough to forgo his pleasures in life.
A lot of things had happened over the past few weeks. Ares wasn't one to ponder deeply about everything or reflect on his life but he was alone in Central Park, sitting on the grass below a tree looking over the pond, a cigarette burning away between his lips.
He'd chosen this spot a long time ago. It reminded him of his younger days millennia ago, sitting on the hill, under a tree looking over the world below. It used to be an escape away from the other Olympians, away from civilisation - a place meant only for him, a peaceful spot he could throw his sword and shield down at; a location only he and Aphrodite knew.
Ares didn't have that luxury in a busy city like New York, but at least he still had a tree he could lean his back against, and a beautiful pond to look over, gazing distantly at the rippling reflections.
He closed his eyes, the back of his head scraping against the bark of the tree. He could hear the birds chirping as they flitted around, chasing each other, hopping from branch to branch. He could hear the people talking, laughing, running. He could just sit here while the day and the world passed by behind him.
