Mimes, in the form of God on high, mutter and mumble low
Who: Iris (sun_and_rain) & Zeus (rules_them_all)
What: Returning to the land of the living
Where: Mt Olympus, WA; Iris roof, NYC.
When: Sunday
Warnings: None.
Cold.
Cold wetness seeping through the layer of heavy cloth that covered his body.
Where was he?
Opening his eyes, he found himself in a snow-covered landscape with a handful of evergreens scattered across the scenery and nothing else. He pushed himself to his knees and sat back on his heels, taking in his surroundings, disoriented, frowning.
Where was he?
His body felt strange as if it were a size too small or too large. It didn't quite fit but perhaps that was normal. Hopefully that feeling would pass.
As disorientation faded, memory returned. Slowly and tentatively at first but the more time passed, the faster they came.
Cronus. Rhea. Poseidon and Hades. Hera, Demeter and Hestia. A goat, a traitor, three variables, a sacred oath weakened - blood and pain. Death.
I died?
I...
I live.
How long had he been gone?
Pushing the hood back, Zeus lifted his gaze towards the skies and raised his arm until it was parallel to the ground, palm facing up. He didn't have to wait long until a shadow appeared above him which drew lazy circles high up in the air, watching and observing him.
The Olympian waited patiently, took slow deep breaths and kept his gaze fixated on the bird. Suddenly, his gaze hardened. Palm facing down, he balled his hand into a fist.
"Come!" he commanded in a low voice. The bird that landed in front of him was nothing like the ones he used to own but it would do. He ran his hand over its head, searching for the spark of proof that it wasn't just a mindless animal and found it.
The sun climbed higher into the sky and when it reached the zenith, two eagles rose towards the sky. One continued to draw lazy circles while the other one headed East. Faster than a normal bird had any right to be it reached the metropolis so many supernatural beings called home and single-mindedly zeroed in on the building the Rainbow called hers.
She was on the roof, alone. As he landed a few feet away from her, he shifted back to his human shape, presenting himself as a tall hooded figure. Nothing gave his identity away and he could have been anyone. But then Zeus tilted his head, allowing fading daylight to slip past the dark hood and touch his face.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth but stopped short of his eyes. Those remained impassive and cold as he studied the fair-haired woman. She was his messenger, that much he remembered. Her name, on the other hand, escaped him. Whatever it was, it didn't matter right now. What she was was more important to him than who she was.
