His voice wasn’t the same, didn’t have the same warmth and tone she was used to hearing, but it was definitely still his voice, and Iris did not hesitate to obey. She stood and told him all she knew.
First she told him of informing Athena of what had happened, and what Athena had then asked her to do. As a result, she knew of a handful of gods who had known for certain of Zeus’ death, and she could make an educated guess at who else would know. Triton had left the city, but so far, most people had stayed where they were. No one had acted out, and if there had been any incidents worth reporting, Iris had not discovered them. No demands for an explanation, no charging at the enemy. It had been surprisingly quiet.
All this and more Iris told him, giving him any information she had that he may need. When she was done, it felt as though it was not enough….how could it be? He had been gone, and nothing Iris said could fill in the time he’d missed. It had been taken from him.
When Iris was done she waited, ready to answer any question he might ask of her, ready to go anywhere he might send her. Before she fell completely silent, however, she could not help herself from adding something more.
“I am more glad at your return than I could possibly say.”
