Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Regulus Blackthg and Amycus Carrowthg
When: August 2nd, early afternoon
Where: a cafe in London
What: talking about the future
Rating/Status: low/incomplete

Although Regulus had spent quite a lot of time since he arrived visiting his new friend, he still didn't know much about him. What the future was like, how they became friends, although he supposed him taking the house next door to Andy would have something to do with that, or why he always seemed so very depressed. Although that part he knew now, at least. That Alecto had been reaped with him. He knew Amycus survived, of course, which means that she didn't. Which most likely also meant he was there or close by when it happened. If he thought the pain was unbearable when he saw Sirius' death on the television, the kind of pain Amycus must be in was truly beyond his comprehension. She was here now, though, so shouldn't that help? He figured since the day he'd arrived himself that if Sirius turned up in this place, if he got to see him alive again, it would take it all away. Maybe he'd been fooling himself on that. It wasn't the first time he'd done that, although he had figured his naivety would have been all but crushed out by now.

Regulus had managed to make it to the cafe first and quickly grabbed a corner booth before the incoming lunch crowd managed to do so and ordered a pot of tea, slightly disappointed that mint was not on the menu. Clearly, Andromeda having every tea known to man stocked piled away since her game had spoiled him to expect that everyone else had, too. He looked out the window as he waited for Amycus to show, idly wondering what it was that he had to tell him in person. "Do you want to know how close we are?" It had been a very strange thing to ask, Regulus thought, but he still wanted to know. It was exciting to make a new friend, as he'd never really had one outside of his family or his brothers' friends. He never let anyone in, let them get close enough that he could be hurt or that he could hurt them. It was too risky, when you never knew who was going to be picked to most likely die that year. But here, he knew he was never reaped. And that Amycus survived. And that none of that mattered, anyway, not here in this new world where the Capitol doesn't take children every September to die.

"You're not making it hurt all that badly Regulus," Amycus whispered, his eyes still closed as he lets Regulus explore his injuries, almost letting himself imagine the gentle exploration occurring under different circumstances and for a different reason. He opens his eyes before his train of thought can go any further down that path, looking a little surprised at Regulus' assertion that he can't help but worry about him but he hides it after just a second. "You once told me that's what friends do - worry about each other," he told him with a half smile at the memory. That had been one of the first times they'd actually planned to spend the day hanging out. "I promise Regulus, I'll go with you to find someone to look me over. After we talk," he tells him, looking away from that questioning look and giving himself a mental shake at his mistake in calling Regulus that again.

He ached to reach out to take Regulus' hand again when he saw him look down at it, just to hold it for a few more seconds while they talked. "Not so ass backward?" he asked with an almost grin. "You and I became friends after my Games. I moved next door to Andy but you know that," he said stopping to try to gather his thought. It would have been so easy for him to carry on, to keep going, to tell Regulus about that night and about the kiss they'd shared on his 18th birthday, about them falling in love but he didn't want to rush it. Regulus had said he wanted to know but that was before he knew and he wanted to give him the chance to change his mind. And there was the matter of explaining his injuries now.

He knew the moment the realization of what had happened to Alecto hit Regulus by the widening of his eyes and the look of sympathy that crossed over the other boys face. "Our father trained us very well," he said closing his eyes as the tears threatened again. He'd thought somehow that talking about it with Regulus wouldn't hurt so badly this time but it did. Worse somehow because it was brand new news to Regulus this time when the first time around everyone had known. "I told her everything. Including that I'd meant to let her be the one to go home. I was going to let her kill me Regulus, and then I couldn't do it. I'm not sure what upset her more, that I was the one who did it or that I meant to let her kill me and go home," he said, putting down his cup so that he could wipe away the first of the tears that escaped him.

"Are you sure?" Regulus asked softly as he watches his friend's reaction as he touches, trying to make sure that he's okay, that he isn't worsening the damage or irritating it in any way. He can't help but give Amycus an embarrassed smile at that look of surprise. "It's true, even if I haven't said it yet. And you're my friend, so of course I'm going to worry about you." Reg wondered what the soft little smile was for, wishing that he was able to remember their shared history. Sometimes he felt a little envious that Am had memories that he didn't have yet, and he kept hoping maybe one day he'd know it all well enough just by hearing Amycus talking about it, it would be like he lived through it too.

Regulus laughed at that statement and grinned at him. "You can start at the end and work your way to the beginning, if it helps. Just pick a direction and go with it. As long as you aren't skipping around, maybe it won't be confusing? And I do know that, and that you found me reading by your pond, where I clearly wasn't supposed to be. Too far over for me to have been confused, but I really do love that pond." He wasn't at all sure why this was so hard for Amycus, what could be making the other boy so nervous about telling him about ...how close they were. The possibilities that could mean popped in his head, but Amycus couldn't mean that, could he?

Regulus could feel his heart breaking for the other boy. Just the thought of it, of having to either kill your sibling and live with that knowledge, or let them do it and let them live with that knowledge. The two of them never should have been reaped together, never should have been possibly put in that situation. Although, to the Capitol it was probably just good entertainment. He could tell how much even just talking about it was hurting Amycus and he couldn't stand it. He stood up and slid into the other side of the booth so he could better comfort his friend. "There wasn't a way for both of you to go home, Am. And she knows that. I don't... I don't know what she thinks your other choices were." Double suicide? He'd heard something like that had happened a few times, but it made his blood run cold to think of it. "But she'll... she has to come around eventually. See this for the chance she's been given. To live. For both of you to."
