Who: Hestia and Peterbaby.
Where: Somewhere outside, okay?
When: Early morning.
What: things.
Status/Rating: Incomplete/Low?

Having Promo only for one night left Hestia feeling exhausted, but of the satisfying kind. When she had left her world, her own children were around his age. She had forgotten how much fun they were and how much energy she had to have in order to keep up with them. From pillow forts, ceilings made of sheets and lots of face and hair painting, Hestia woke up tired but refreshed. She had forgotten what it was like to be a mother to a child and had secretly missed it. Both of her children were older now and she found it awkward to ask them both into a food fight. They had their own fun, as much as they disagreed with one another.

So Hestia settled for being the best grandmother possible. Leaving a full breakfast for Promo with a note promising she would be back soon, Hestia set out for a very early morning hike. Dressed in some yoga pants, a cami with a light fleece, Hestia walked the trails, inhaling the cold crisp of the morning that the sun was chasing away. She needed these moments, just a few moments to be alone, to admire the place in which she was, to remember that she wouldn't be here forever and with a flash, she could be gone back home.

Hestia reached the top of the hill, her hands resting behind her head as she watched the sun rise slowly over the mountains. The moment was almost perfect, but it was missing a vital piece.

Between the distraction of the worlds they were put in, the experiments, and dealing with their own individual business, it felt like a long time since Peter had gotten any time away with Hestia. It didn't just feel that way; it had been a long time. They'd gone to the party, but that hadn't been quite the same, it hadn't been just them.

But part of why they were together here was because of their shared determination to cope with whatever the compound threw at them, to support and push each other into doing whatever they needed to do individually, and to manage to make do with what they had. Even if they didn't see each other much, one of the things they had here was each other. And despite the time apart, Peter hadn't felt worried that that would change, which was a very big relief.

He rose early for their hike, and dressed for the outdoors in jeans and a jacket for warmth. Wandering up to where they'd agreed to meet, he found her already there, relaxing and waiting for him. Sitting down beside her, he leaned over to kiss her lightly before resting comfortably against her side. "Morning," he said, a smile appearing on his face.

Hestia was never the needy type, which was partly why she could see her marriage ending. Her mentality was if she wanted to be with someone she would, but she didn't have to be with that person all the bloody time. For the first time in her life, she had moments where was blissfully happy on being alone with herself. It was common bond that they held, that no matter what happened, they had each other without really having to say anything. They didn't need their relationship slapped over the journals, or the noises heard from their bedrooms. All they needed were these small moments inbetween the silly drunken parties and small meals with one another.

Hestia heard his footsteps long before he made himself known to him. He was the only one she would be expecting and it was apparent she was happy to see him as her smile was already showing as he sat down beside her. She allowed herself to be kissed, feeling his warmth settling in comfortably beside her. "Morning handsome."

It was then she slipped an arm around him and pulled him down to lay with her. She snuggled up close, resting her head on his chest, her fingers curling gently into his shirt. "Missed you."

Peter had been very dependent for much of his life, which had been a huge problem for him when he'd arrived here. There had been far too many people who disliked him and many important people in his life that were missing, and that had been a difficult combination to deal with. He'd simply existed, mostly as a kind of hermit, until he'd met her. There had been other things as well, but she'd played a big role. Most people in his life had simply made him more dependent on them, for confidence if nothing else, but she had pushed him to stand on his own two feet, to believe in himself and not rely on anyone else for his self-esteem or happiness.

And in the process, she'd somehow become the person that made him happiest. It didn't matter to him that their relationship wasn't like everyone else's, or that it never would have happened anywhere else or in any other way; everything had come together for it to happen here and he was grateful for that.

He relaxed against the ground as she pulled him down, arms going around her as she rested against him. "Mm," he said agreeably. "You, too. It's been pretty crazy, hasn't it?"

It was beyond crazy. The motherly instinct wanted to get in both of her children's business and sort it out herself. These were her children and they were fighting which tore her apart inside. She didn't want either of them upset with one another. They needed each other and always had each other, but with Juni in the middle, it made Hestia mad. It made her mad that her daughter couldn't accept Bran's happiness and it made Hestia mad that Bran had the reputation to make Eris so god damn protective over her best mate. It was give and take and Hestia, through her argument with Eris, had learned to just let it be.

Probably the hardest lesson yet.

"Oh very I just..." Hestia let out a deep breath, followed by a low groan. "I thought the sibling bickering would end after you know...puberty..." Hestia gave him a tight squeeze and buried her face in his chest. It was comforting to feeling the rise and fall of his chest, to feel him so close. Where she wanted to say she wasn't dependent upon Peter, she knew it was a lie. There were times where she simply wanted to reach out just to be around him and then times where she held back because she simply didn't want to be that person. He needed his independence and where she wanted to hold onto something she never had, she thought a little more and held back.

"At least Promo is a little younger to where I can still have some fun. Although its been forever since I've painted, had food fights, and built tents. How are you holding up?"

Peter smiled. "I don't know if the bickering ends. At least not in our world." He paused for a moment. "It seems like other worlds might have less fighting than we do, but they have more wars. I'd rather have our kinds of fights, personally."

Maybe that was why, really. He imagined that a lot of things stopped mattering when lives were on the line, so there were a lot more things that people in wartime didn't bother to argue about when they were busy fighting bigger battles. His world was just a mess of politics and relationships, but he wasn't going to complain about that when they could be dealing with war and friends stabbing each other in the back.

"I liked doing that when Chris was younger. Well, before he was mad at me. But maybe it's better that he's older now." He tightened his arms around her, fingers twining gently into her hair. "I'm okay, I think."

Hestia didn't say it, but she had thought it. In other worlds, in other wars, her Peter wasn't the same man she was laying with. They were both dealing with their own family issues, which all seemed to be entwined with one another. "I'm inclined to agree even though I would love to just bump my twins' heads together at this particular moment." Or console her daughter, telling her it was okay to not be ready for motherhood. Internally, she ever wondered if Eris would ever be ready considering the future problems she faced, but thought better of it.

Hestia stayed silent for a little while, letting Peter speak about Christopher. It was a touchy subject as she wasn't really sure what to think of his older son. She couldn't think badly about him, but she was a bit stand-offish considering he pretty much hated her for stealing his dad. And it was hard for her to not give in to a child of someone she cared about. Children always came first, always had with Hestia, so putting her foot down with Christopher was uncomfortable for Hestia. "Better for who? He seems pretty miserable if you ask me. His family seems to be the most important thing to him and rightfully so...and now he doesn't have them. Seems a bit rough." Then again, he had his father and sister and not even that was enough.

Smiling slightly, she lifted her head, resting her chin on his chest. "You think?" With the palms of her hands resting on his chest, she lifted herself up and looked down at him. "You should just know." With a bright smile, she leaned down and kissed him. "And if you still think you're okay, I'll make sure you know instead of think."
